Weird performance and load issues for how it looks.

I would have been disappointed had there not been any "D" jokes.

This is totally up my alley. Even if the gameplay's not that great, I'll still probably pick this up if/when this ends up on PC.

It's probably more obvious if you see the 'Hero' form, but to me it looked like the letters OEM running around... which is really weird.

I switched to Firefox like eight months ago because Chrome was giving me grief on GB and Youtube videos on every one of my four computers. I highly recommend it. Chrome has become a pos, apparently.

Guys this game looks bad. Not visually necessarily, but more like generally not fun.

Can we as humans maybe stop making Limbo over and over again with one or two things different in every instance?

@davidh219: Youtube, Raocow. Is, and has been doing mario rom hacks for years. He has..like 20 or 40 or something different fully different games. From Vip 1-3 to all sorts of things. There is, infact a thriving, if maybe small, mario rom-hack community that does, quite frankly, amazing work. Way way WAY more then mario maker can handle. Custom music, bosses, mini-games, world maps, items, cut scenes, dialog, etc etc etc.

I don't watch it as much any longer, but it is, effectively, amazing to see just how many different takes on the SMW engine exist.

Oh, and because now I've let it go for awhile. For everyone else; Knyt stories, don't eat the mushroom is the reference. Proton Jon, also on youtube does a play through. Beware the King. That is all I will spoil.

@branthog: They're working fine for me in Chrome.

@branthog: I have always used chrome on GB and have never had any problems with the playback at all, well with the exception of some live stream issues but I don't think that's a chrome.related.problem.

What I never got is why people were bonkers for Limbo in the first place. It had a striking visual style but literally every aspect of the gameplay was trial and error, something that Brad and others always cite as a reason that stealth games are bad, yet they pretty much all loved Limbo.

I like the concept on this one, but like Alex said, it didn't seem to control very well. Kind of a deal breaker on a game like this.

Also I just learned from the GB community here that any game with a darker design and platforming is apparently just Limbo in disguise.

Yeah, desperately needs the Mario 2 pickup.

do you mean you can do that at any time (vs. carrying & throwing them around)?

if so that does alleviate most of the tedium in this game I guess.

man, this looks tedious. the lifting and carrying and throwing animations are all way too slow.

yes, you can do it at any time once you are in the vicinity of letters. you just press a button on the gamepad and you will see a "letter ordering" screen there, where you can touch & drag the letters however you want. and poof, they're there!

as mentioned in my other comment, you can just do it with touch&drag on the gamepad. guess Alex & the others didn't discover it in the quick look though.

A lot of these puzzles just feel broken.

I laughed hard at the G O O D part with the drugs...

This art style is fine by itself but putting it with the typography art is just way too big of an aesthetic clash for me. The backgrounds are too finely rendered and looks weird and wrong next to all the simple letter forms.

Maybe I'm being extra snobby since I'm in a design-related field, but seriously, it's killing me how much I dislike the combination.

@chumm: haha i promise i'm not from headup games, but the game devs are good buddies of mine. and their game designer likes final fantasy a lot, so it could very well be that it's a reference :-P but i'll make sure to ask him.

Any platformer with dark aesthetics where you play as a small, lumbering character that drags stuff around to solve puzzles involving machinery and indirectly defeat big, monstrous enemies is similar to Limbo.

I totally agree! For a game about lettering there is no thought paid to the typography. That should really have been part of the designs. It looks like only one font is used and outside of some bending and scale there's little attention paid.

There's also probably a deeper dive between the origin of written language using signifier and sign. Too bad, lot of lost potential here.

@eccentrix: Perhaps but it just seems like a lazy comparison. There had to have been more recent, "brooding" type games to compare it too right? Well, maybe not, but I guess it's weird to hear that older game being brought up all the time. Could just be me though.

This game reminds me a bit of like a And Yet It Moves, or any other sort of minimalistic platformer with a very singular type of hook that might get old after a while.

Vinny did not notice the Dark Souls reference with the "PRAISE" being placed right where the sunlight hits?
