Jon Hopkin's music is awesome..hope this gets more people into his past work.

Amen to that. It was these guys through whom I discovered him after using 'Lost in thought' for their first trailer and I've absolutely adored him ever since. I got Contact Note for Christmas which is what this soundtrack seems to be mostly using, but his other album Opalescent which is one of my all-time favourites might also be in there.

The game looks great. I will definitely pick it up at some point. Steam wishlisted.

The puzzle side of the game looks fucking awesome.

The controls though look horrendous and that's really off putting for me. If I know the solution to the puzzle and the only thing stopping me completing it is the fact that the controls are horrid it's just not good enough.

Will probably pick this up at some point but got other stuff to play right now anyway.

Brad did excellent, don't know who would complain.

This game sorta reminds me of Shadow Complex with all the caves and such. Might just have to buy me a copy.

I love it when the GB crew finds games like these on Steam that I never heard of. And Brad....thank god you QL these with Vinny. You are terrible :)

Never, EVER QL a puzzly game solo, please. You know that feeling you get when you're playing and not knowing what to do and the entire internet is screaming at their monitor because they can see what to do? Yeah, this is one of those times. I love you Brad, but man - you do some painful QLs...

You're kidding me right? Do you just want to walk right through it? It's a puzzle game, puzzle games require trial and error. Lazy ass gamers.

Something tells me that if they weren't using a X360 controller they might not have so many problems with trying to make small incremental movements.

Yo, Brad, most people try to figure out what their goal in a puzzle is, first, instead of just picking random aspects of the puzzle and being like, "This Rubik's cube? I'm twisting it? Is this working? What if I get three different colors in a line? Does that do anything? I'm gonna keep doing that until something happens."

So, what, if you had a rubik's cube you'd just sit there and stare at it and plot out all your moves to the end before you even touch the thing? Well, that's cool I guess ... but I wouldn't speak for what most people would do or which way is superior by whatever judgement. Trail and error, interacting and playing with things to see what happens is a perfectly valid way to play. Maybe it's just fun to go into a room and shoot water around the place for a bit instead of standing there figuring out exactly what to do before moving or touching anything.

The puzzle is working out what to do? Not spending ages fiddling with wheels to get the angle perfect once you've figured it out? Lazy like having a cross-hairs in portal ... what's the point of playing if you know exactly where the portals are going to end up ... so lazy.

That's what I'm saying! Apparently the path to critical acceptance for FLUDD was to abandon the primary-colored plumber on a console and become a steampunk guy on PC.

Puzzle games should be about figuring out the proper steps to arrive at the goal/solution you want. Puzzle games should not be about ballparking the trajectory of a dodgy fluid dynamics system that has water immediately turn into small pellets. Brad has a point.

Puzzle games should be about figuring out the proper steps to arrive at the goal/solution you want. Puzzle games should not be about ballparking the trajectory of a dodgy fluid dynamics system that has water immediately turn into small pellets. Brad has a point.

So in Portal, widely recognized as a fantastic game, you never misaligned a portal or made a bad jump because it was all about just figuring out the steps right? And Angry Birds would be improved by showing you a trajectory because that game is only about figuring out what to hit right?

Sorry, but you're wrong, dealing with "analog" mechanics like movement and alignment has a place in puzzle games. Besides, Vessel's fluid system isn't all that particularly difficult to deal with (speaking as a person who has actually played the game) and getting streams lined up correctly is part of the challenge and part of the fun, just like trying to get the trajectory right in Angry Birds or deftly maneuvering in Portal.

---

By the way, about 3 hours in now and this game is great. The movement is ever so dodgy on occasion, but it's not that big a deal. It's no where near as critical that you have pixel perfect movement in this game as is compared to something like, say, Rayman Origins. Anyone who liked Braid or even games like Aquaria should pick this up.

@Sweetz: If you played through portal 2 you would know that there are frequent marks and signposts (not literal signposts btw) on where you should place your portals. Not to mention the surfaces where you can place portals are sometimes placed in a way so that you know where to align it.

If I had played through Portal? Here's a great thing about Giant Bomb, you could have taken 30 seconds to look at my profile and game achievements to realize that I've played and completed both games and then perhaps you wouldn't be making baseless accusations. Yes, in the early levels do they really hold your hand with Portal placement. In later levels, especially in Portal 2 when you're trying to align light bridges or anti-grav streams, I found it's plenty easy to put a Portal at the wrong spot or make a bad jump and yet I didn't think there was any fault with the game for that.

Vessel isn't a strict puzzle game like Crazy Machines or something in that vein. It's a puzzle-platformer, and dealing with fuzzy mechanics is a part of the experience just like the other puzzle games with action elements. Aligning water streams really isn't as fiddly as Brad makes it look; and for the most part you have fluros stand on buttons so that the water stream itself is flowing and naturally acts as an aligning guide - like the part where they need to go between the 4 stream redirectors to get the nozzle part.

There's something Amiga-ish about this, in a good way (most Amiga platformers had terrible controls), specifically something is reminding me of Harlequin I think.
