@chose: You're right about infantile and immature being two different things. My bad.

That said, I loved Windwaker and the original Yoshi's Island game to death. Two game that would be infantile I think.

I'm far from being a kid.

I feel like Jeff just isn't very excepting of things that are different to what he knows. Jeff loves the original Mario games and because Yoshi Island was different, he didn't like it. Dark Souls controls different to most action games, guess what, Jeff doesn't like it.

Which is fine, he's allowed to like what he likes. But I just don't appreciate how he'll say games are bad just because HE doesn't like them.

Yep, similar thing with RE4's GameCube's aiming and Yoshi's Islands' aiming; just because these games do aiming in a different manner, Jeff doesn't like it.

Question, is this a Quick Look or a Review?

Don't get me wrong i'm not knocking it, it's cool to hear someones opinions on something they've finished while playing it, i'm probably ok with it because i'm not intending on playing this game.

It's Patrick Klepek and Jeff Gerstmann playing out a Giant Bomb in-joke (in that they fall completely on the opposite end of the spectrum in their opinion of SM2: Yoshi's Island for the SNES.

Also, the crew has played through finished/reviewed games on many occasions, especially towards November/December AAA season.

I think this Quick Look highlights the 'painfully average' issue with this game even better than the review did.

Throughout the Quick Look Jeff and Patrick try to discuss the game and instead just gradually transition into a discussion on the game industry because there is simply not much to comment on. Meanwhile, I found myself paying attention to their conversation, but I had difficulty paying attention to the actual game; the issue with the level design isn't just that it's easy (Kirby games are usually very easy and that's rarely an issue), it's outright uninspired and as bland as it gets.

Strip away all the fun aesthetics from the first game and you'd still have a solid, compelling experience which constantly changes up the gameplay, presents various puzzles which take full advantage of the systems they have in place, and contains many collectibles and secrets which a player has to actually put effort in to find. Strip them away here and you have just about nothing.

Huge fan of the original Yoshi's Island, but this game looks just weird. The graphics look somehow worse than the SNES game due to its mix of art styles (and none of them looking good invividually.) The level design also seems uninspired, unlike the original, where every level had a certain theme and unique twist and personality to it.

Honestly, this reminds me of how I felt about New Super Mario Bros. on the DS, a bland, uninspired downgrade of the original game, that Jeff for some reason holds in highest regards and gave a 9.0 to.

It's so refreshing to see someone be able to play and talk at the same time.

Patrick's Spelunky time at work here.

And what the hell is this game about?

Those ghosts as 16:20 look like flying condoms.

This looks like a much slower, safer, and less engaging version of Yoshi's Island. It's been a while, but I remember the shooting reticule moving back 'n' forth much faster than that.

I've mentioned this somewhere before but what I want to see Nintendo do is basically make a Kingdom Hearts with all their IPs. Call it Super Mario RPG 2, and it's about Mario going to other universes getting the whole posse together to defeat some huge planet eating monster or some crap like that.
