Got spooked by X, now time to get ready for UPF y'all!

This is the best. That being said, protip for Abby. Take out the legs on a zombie then just run past them. Great way to save ammo. Kill zombies that are absolutely in your way but if you can get around them, shoot the legs off then run.

Man I really hated playing the game once Mr. X showed up. Such an annoying change in pace.

I am only about half way through but anyone else feel like Dan should have given Abby a heads up about not wanting ALL her ammo on Mr. X? I don't think that would be considered a spoiler.

Best Giantbomb moment of the year so far.

Abby a super huge pro tip for you, shoot the legs of zombies till you see it break (usually 2-3 bullets) that way you don't waste 6-7 bullets on a head hoping for it to explode. If it doesn't explode it won't with more bullets, so don't waste them. Much easier to shoot a leg out and force the zombie to crawl rendering it helpless and you can easily run around them. Also another pro tip, ditch the window boards, you've used all you can and the windows are no longer going to be a threat to you, save yourself the space and get rid of them. To Dan and Vinny, zombies do not infinitely spawn from windows in the remake, there is only a finite amount of zombies in the game, 1 per window that is able to be boarded up. Also to Abby, as to why you couldn't get through the door in the Library, it's because when you used the C4 to explode the barricade to get the medallion early on, the force of the explosion pushed the book shelf to tip over and block that door. You were supposed to move it back so you can use that door again (ideally before collecting the medallion, so that you didn't have to do that under stress from a zombie and a licker hunting you). Going forward Abby, if you are going to a new area always carry at least one health item and one defense item (knife, flash or explosive grenade) and plot your routes more carefully so that you don't go to an area with a specific item you need that you left in the item box. Also if it isn't obvious enough, don't waste ammo on Mr. X (tyrant) you can't kill him outright so it's wasteful to blow your ammo on him especially if you can't guarantee in making him take a knee...if he's going to punch you, let him do it and just run after, he gives you ample time to escape after a punch. Also one more thing...because I know you guys discussed it during the stream, Mr. X actually does travel and explore in the environment surrounding you, he doesn't magically spawn near you and hunt you. It's been proven in videos to show that he traverses RPD and searches for you. Don't shoot weapons if you can avoid it, he will go where you make shooting noises, it's often best to just walk instead.

They are not being of much help to her. Vinny’s advice to not carry a health item was terrible - you have a lot more item slots in this than in REmake.

There's a simple joy to watching people play a damn good video game all the way through and seeing them enjoy the hell out of it.

So many great moments in this one episode alone!

This is currently the best thing on the site, so I'm glad the Beast crew has committed to beating the game!

General tip: You unlock shortcuts as you go through an area. Long, dangerous routes can be mostly avoided when backtracking by taking note of when you unlock doors and carefully plotting your path when checking the map. There's a general flow to the big areas that the game nudges you along through that makes traversal feel very natural without hitting a lot of dead ends.

I personally like to always leave 3-4 inventory slots empty every time I go out of a safe room to minimize discarding and taking unplanned storage box detours.

Since Abby is playing on Standard, I really wouldn't worry about her ammo situation. The game is relatively generous providing just enough new resources in every area to get through it, even in boss arenas.

In Hardcore, yes, all this ammo consumption would make certain parts incredibly tough and require perfect item usage!

But on Standard, it's made for some hella good entertainment.

I have been waiting for Mr. X to show up. That asshole is SO MUCH more tenacious in Claire's game!

I had a similar experience to Dan et al, but with the first Grandia. The save room right before the boss is a literal point of no return to the rest of the dungeon. Where the random enemies and their sweet, sweet XP can be encountered. Turns out, I hadn't leveled enough to beat the final boss...and literally COULDN'T go and grind more. THAT is some shitty game design.

It might not be the best idea to overwrite your save every time. There are lots of save slots so you might as well use them just in case you get stuck for whatever reason.

@handlas: Once she gets to the lab, she should be fine. The game pours ammo on you at that point.

The way this game triggers my compulsion to organize is so ridiculous. I know Abby keeps commenting every time she goes into her inventory to organize like it's weird, but I understand the sickness.

I really am very glad they are continuing to play this. I hope they're ignoring all the pro tips. Seeing them combine two greens with a blue instead of a RGB might have made me physically react, but that's only because I'm a weirdo.

Poor Abby, but this series is amazing. Mr. X was so much more of a fucker as Claire B with all her linear paths through the station than Leon A who was circular routes galore. At least Claire A looks a bit better than that was.

For her wondering how he works, Mr. X does follow you naturally and doesn't port around, buuuut there are actually multiple copies of him running around at the same time in different parts of the station. There are actually videos (such as this one) of people luring more than one of him and having two on screen, which nearly happened to me naturally in Claire B. I could hear two sets of footsteps in opposite directions in the fire escape hall.

Such a fun series. Thank you Abby!

You pretty much always have enough space for one healing item in this game, and the game throws far more of them at you than you might need. I found ammo to be far more scarce, so it was better for me to run down hallways knowing I would get grabbed and then heal up afterwards. I think its sort of the trade off this game wants to make considering its much harder to juke around the zombies.

Dan mouthing "here we go" around 18:25 is very good. Giddy Dan is a fun Dan.

Seeing the adaptive difficulty at play here was pretty cool. Enemies started getting way, way less durable and claire randomly took no/very little damage from attacks as things went on. My understanding is that there's a value, 1-9, the game hides as you play that determines how hard stuff is. Hardcore just stays at 8-9.

@ortms6553: I felt the same way. Maybe not for her first encounter, but it sucked watching her waste ALL her ammo every time she ran into him. Especially when she needed to get past the lickers. In my first playthrough I didn't fire a single shot into that guy because I just knew.

Abby, I love you. But please for the love of God stop wasting ammo on Mr. X and every other monster. Most of them can be avoided or just shot in the knee to make them fall and run over them. Most first-timers try to play these as an action game, so I get where you're coming from, but you're really screwing yourself over for later game play.

Mr. X is pretty much the Anti-Abby and I love it! Gonna jump on train and suggest stop pumping ammo into him though :)
