I'm really interested in giving this a go. I'm pretty worried about the ring thing holding up over time tho, especially after seeing that knee press where you're repeatedly kneeing it over and over again.

Another reminder that Nintendo does its best work when it's not trying to make the game look good or have a coherent title.

also -- thanks for the demo Abby and GBE team. I would've never thought ring-squeezing was a thing I would want without your considered work on this.

@fontelroy: You don't actually knee the ring. There should be a couple inches between the top of your knees and the bottom of the ring. But that is a valid concern. I have no idea how long these rings are supposed to last. But I will say I've only had the game for a week and I like it much better than the Wii U fitness game.

@swazzyswess: Some time ago I switched to doing a few dynamic stretches after waking up and those seem to be good enough for me. I do warm up before working out, just not with stretches and I don’t stretch after working out anymore.

It’s been fine but I only do low impact cardio as a supplement to weightlifting so I might not be getting the amount of wear and tear associated with high impact cardio. One thing I do notice though is after lifting, if I don’t hydrate enough the rest of the day I will be noticeably more sore that following day because of the lactic acid buildup not getting flushed out enough.

There has been times that I’ve injured a muscle though and during recovery stretching seemed to really help.

Ugh, I wouldn't be surprised if Dan is one of those assholes at gyms who goes up to random strangers and comments on their form. Also noone cares about your difficulty setting Dan.

Good on Abby for volunteering to exercise on video shared on the internet. Brings back memories of Ryan on Kinect quick looks.

@timcredible: Nope! They're great and think Jeff and co suit motion games much better (being fairly akin to vr shenanigans in my mind).

Hats off to Nintendo. They gamified elements of pilates, yoga, and calisthenics into a fitness product that's quite remarkable; leaps and bounds beyond a simple balance board.

I'm all for anything that get's people engaged in physical exercise, and as a gateway to other physical activities or hobbies.

I'm actually impressed by this! (And Abby for have the guts to demo it for quick look.)

I had a smile on my face the entire time I was watching this. Thanks for the QL Abby!

I might have to actually get this... it's way more clever, entertaining, and effective than I ever expected.

Does anyone know if this has a calorie counter in it?

Why yes there is! In the bottom left black circle that measures active time working out: you can change that display to show estimated calories burned (based on the info you told it and your difficulty settings). Keep in mind that you'll never really burn THAT much using Ring Fit Adventure, but it has surprised me how often I end up drenched in sweat and am sore for the following day. It really puts you through the ringer if you put the effort in.

I can't believe my GOTY right now is a remake of a beloved Resident Evil game and a silly, hoop game made by Nintendo.

This game rules. I recommend it 1000%. It's a real fun way to exercise, and I've been working up a heck of a sweat playing it. It's also adorable. Thanks for showing this off!

There's been a lot of research on stretching and almost zero findings of any correlation between stretching and reduced injuries or increased recovery times. "I definitely notice it works when I stretch" is exactly the kind of statement you'd expect with the placebo effect.

...That being said, I still do some light dynamic stretching before a hard workout and some longer static stretches after. Cause who cares if it's a placebo if it FEELS like it works. So much of exercise is getting yourself in the right headspace-- like, for example, making a fun game of it. (Or a really fun QL.)

@yojimboran: Do you have any links to articles about that? Genuinely interested, other than it being ingrained knowledge from childhood the only data I hear about stretching is from top athletes (Brady, Giggs) who say a big reason why they stay injury free so long is because they make stretching and yoga a big part of their lifestyle.

If GBeast ran a 2-3 times a week workout stream I'd be tempted to buy the Ringfit and go along with it.

Great QL, great game. Would definitely recommend anyone who's interested take the plunge, it's miles better than doing this sort of thing at home through video tutorials or other similar stuff.

Super 8 is bad, is a bad take.

It gets a lot of hate because JJ Abrams and because it wasn't marketed well, but as someone who watched it without any particular expectations, it was a very good take on that kind of movie.

I just started this a few days ago, and damn, I didn't realize how out of shape I am. I don't remember what my difficulty is set at, but I know I have much, much fewer reps than this, and it's still making me gasp like fish on land.

Clasping your hands behind your back like that would probably get you tried for witchcraft back in the day. Ain't natural! 0_o
