Dan doesn't seem to understand the concept of "metaphor" and it's kind of worrying.

He is a cartoon boy, worrying about it will give you an aneurysm.

11 minutes in and I think Dan's brain broke discussing cookie dough.

Studio MDHR said that they own the Cuphead IP, but the first Cuphead game would never release on non-Microsoft platforms.
Sounds like a Mass Effect 1 situation.

Also the first 15 minutes of this show were amazing.

Really disappointed that nobody uttered the words "Clam Slam" during the Splatoon 2 segment.

Mass Effect did eventually get a digital release on PS3 in 2012. Sure, it was five years later, but still.

I never thought I would say that, and I will be stoned to death here, but I agree with Dan on D&D roles and he mirrors my feeling on it. I can never understand what is going on and why would I throw a dice to get something happen. Maybe if I play it, I'll understand it but it just sound so bizarre when I hear Vinny talk about it

Cuphead isn't coming to the Switch. As far as the "whiny-ness" about the BF2 outcry, I'm not going to really miss Jeff Bakalar the next couple weeks.

Jesus Christ, Dan. Pretend for a second second that you have an imagination. When you were a kid, did you ever pretend to be something that you aren't? News flash: you were roleplaying!!!! All that DnD did is take that roleplaying process and establish some rules so that you have structure and you can't simply say "actually I'm god and you all suck and die because I said so."

Have you played a video game where there is a weapon or an ability of some kind that has a certain percentage chance at doing something like landing a critical hit? That's the game rolling dice "to get something to happen." In many table top role playing games such as D&D, the dice rolls are simply surfaced and performed by the players instead of hidden and performed by an automated system.

@dirk_funk: I don't think anyone is saying you can't have opinions. However, when you say things like "night in the woods is hipster nonsense," your words can easily be interpreted as an insult to the people who like the game (or the people who created it).

That D&D section was straight up embarassing. Most of Dan's issues with understanding reality come off as funny to me, if vexing, but at some point he's actually just being bad at his job.

An unexpected treat.

Could probably have a dedicated podcast for addressing Dan's many confusions.

I'm 12 minutes into this podcast and I'm just SCREAMING

After listening to this podcast; it finally happened. I stopped caring about Giant Bomb. I let my subscription lapse because of money issues, but now I just do not want to. I love Vinny, but he can only do so much. Onward to the SuperBestFriends Podcast! To actual fun times with a baby dwarf, MattMcMuscles, and Woolie the Woolies Strike Back!

@danryckert If you wanna try and look this stuff up on your own, this series of blogposts on different types of tabletop roleplaying games was helpful to me. Here's a choice quote:

For people who play a lot of tabletop games, D&D has a very complicated status. It’s a big classic game beloved by countless players and is tied to the DNA of pretty much all interactive entertainment out there. It’s also carrying around forty years of baggage and sacred cows from the pre-Nintendo era. It’s not hard to find dedicated groups of roleplayers who play D&D exclusively and it’s not hard to find groups that won’t play it under any circumstances.

Here’s the thing to get out of the way right up front about D&D. It is, and always has been, all about the bullshit.

Essentially, there's a gradient of games that move from pure improv to games with hard rules for every minute detail of the setting, and D&D is on the complex side. In videogame terms, let's say it's some sort of visual novel or storytelling adventure game on one end and Divinity Original Sin or Etrian Odyssey on the other. Considering how much fun you had with the game you all played at Christmas compared to how rough the Pathfinder sessions were, I definitely think the storytelling games are more of your thing.

On a related note, I guess Vinny might like Valkyria Chronicles. It's similar to Dragon Age Origins in how it mixes the real time movement with dicerolls and pausing.

I have recently gotten into Rock Band for the first time. I wanted to try Guitar Hero, but you can't get controllers for it anymore. Used Guitar Hero (I think IV or less) controllers are $300 on ebay. So we are losing that history... mainly because Guitar Hero had to use a specialized controller, rather than just a standard controller like Rock Band uses. You can find the old GH software cheap and available on amazon, probably because you are SoL unless you already have a controller. I wish they would patch GH so you could use Rock Band guitars with it / ie. standard controllers. The current Rock Band (cheap) guitars are really good, I think.

I can't wait for next week's episode where Dan figures out that Brownies also have eggs! Also, never let Dan talk about Skate ever again, please and thank you.
