I absolutely loved Space Marine and the character of Titus voiced by Mark Strong, so i was surprised to hear his voice again in this game.
With a great premise and strong voice for a strong character, it's a shame it seems to be primarily a mobile game.

@djkommunist: He would be in the sequel to this game, Malleus.

But man, this game has a load of heart. I'm a huge fan of the Eisenhorn books and this game seems to deliver quite a few of the early setpiece moments in Xenos, the first book. I can't help but wish that some studio would buy the license and make a really nice, high-budget version of one of my favorite series of all time. It's a pipe dream, but man, Eisenhorn would translate so well into an LA-Noir type game.

Watching this made me realize that I had not read the Eisenhorn trilogy (or other books he shows up in). Mainly I read a bunch of other 40K stuff and read all of the Gaunt's Ghosts books. Went to Amazon, saw there was an Omnibus for the trilogy...but no digital/Kindle version. Went to Black Library (Games Workshop's Official store/publisher page) and the digital version of $50 freaking dollars. Each of the books, individually, from Amazon (in physical, not digital) would be about $11.

With the rise of 3D printing I really wonder what GW is gonna to do combat it? I can't really feel sorry for them if they ever went out of business or sold the company off because of how insane they are with their IP and how retailers have to sell their products.

That being said this game look super flawed but potentially cool. Maybe they'll bring it to consoles and I'll play it.

I don't know much about Warhammer, but it's weird seeing people in regular clothing that looks out of the 1920s. Doesn't everyone just walk around in giant power armor?

I just want a Mass Effect style game based on the Eisenhorn series. Also, a Vinny and Austin Warhammer 40k book club podcast.

The most terrifying thing for me is that after Vinny spent all this time talking about these books way back in the past I went ahead and read like 2 or 3 of them ..and I remember absolutely nothing from any of them. This is like a year or two ago.

EDIT: Also Space Marine - solid game.

Abnett is the only writer who makes 40k fiction I want to read. Haven't read any of the Eisenhorn stuff but I have a half-finished Gaunt's Ghosts book. Its not because it was bad - I just got distracted eventually and haven't gotten back to it.

Had a lot of fun running an Only War tabletop campaign a few years back, so I see the appeal of the setting. Just don't care much about Space Marines or what drives the aliens or chaos guys.

Question to 40K fans.

I am extremely interested in getting into the 40K universe, but have absolutely no interest in the tabletop game. I adore the setting and everything I hear said about the universe, are the Eisenhorn books a good intro to the universe? As in do they do a good job of explaining stuff or do they assume you know the universe well already? What is a good starting point to getting into this stuff? Horus Heresy?

I already have read a lot of random stuff on the wiki about 40K because that a thing I do about basically everything.

I think Eisenhorn's voice actor is Mark Strong, who also did the voice of the main character is WH40K: Space Marine. Man knows how to do his Space Latin.

I already have read a lot of random stuff on the wiki about 40K because that a thing I do about basically everything.

There is a hundreds of books and every series is a good introduction in to the universe, There's all sorts of types of stories though. Eisenhorn is more of a 40K hard boiled noir/detective story I believe, there's Ultramarines, SpaceWolves and other books about chapters if you want to learn about their back story and ways. There's also books about the imperial Army, the regular folks fighting the good fight and assisting the power stronger armies and chapters. Gaunt Ghosts seems to be a good one I hear.

And then there the Horus Heresy series which takes place 10.000 years before the 40K universe and follows Horus's betrayal of his chapter and becoming the tyrant he became.

Some book series are about 12 books long so beware, It's best to see what you want to read about from the universe and look for those books. The Black Library has a massive collection of Warhammer books.

Look for books by Dan Abnet, he's one of the best sci fi writers out there.

Also if you're interested about the lore and not the tabletop games, I highly suggest getting a bunch of 40K video games as well. All of the Dawn of War games as well as the THQ Space Marine game are fantastic. And there's the new Gothic Armada space fleet game which seems really great so far.

Weird. I read this book for the first time about a month ago and a bunch of Eisenhorn's narration in this clip was pulled almost word-for-word from the book. Not sure how I feel about that.

@kid_gloves: Eisenhorn was where I started. Just check a wiki, if you need to, but, by and large, the book has enough exposition to keep you going. I find them to be more interesting books --- they are essientailly sci-fi, supernatural detective novels --- than the Horus Heresy or more standard Military Sci-Fi and Space Marine stuff.

I think the story and seeing the characters 'in the flesh' will outshine the rough edges for me. I really hope this does well enough for GW to give more money to devs to help them make better looking/playing games. Hopefully they polish this well.
