So is Wonderful Universe of TANG suppose to be an acronym for WU-TANG or is it just a coincidence?

Tron was/is a pretty neat movie, but I really don't understand how it warranted a sequel almost 30 years later.

While I agree it is a bit of a slow movie, I still consider it one of my favorites!

It's curious... I think Tron has aged a lot better than Ryan seems to think it has, yet I can't actually refute a single thing he said.  Welcome back TANG.

Everything he said was spot on, after I saw it looking back I quite liked it, maybe just the idea of it. But while watching it it was certainly slow, and at times boring.

Still a cool movie though

It makes sense that the guy who plays Tron is a little too buff, because he was almost always brought in for TV cowboy shows. Why they chose a John Wayne-type actor to do the part is beyond me.

While I agree with the comments on the pacing, this year marked the first time I've ever seen TRON, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Maybe it's because I am all too familiar with the limitations of the time (even though I was born in 1991, I am well-versed in the movie industry through study), but I thought it was an incredible film that was captivating to watch. Even though I snickered at some of the corny parts (One of the characters is named RAM? Really?), I completely bought into the world they concocted, and loved almost every minute of it.

TANG: Excellent as always

That long lived couch needs to go to the plaid burial ground though. I know, they went to the trouble of bringing it all the way to the new office, but still.

You know that thing weighs 800lbs.  789lbs of which is dust.  They flea bombed the Sausalito office before, largely due to this couch I bet.   Go nuts, buy a new, old, used, new-ER couch already.  Feh!

I think Ryan was a bit harsh on the glow FX, and the black and white actors.  They are just part of the char of the movie.  Also if you had asked him what he thought of that in 1982, he prob would have shit his pants from the bodily strain of shouting awesome!  Also I have no clue WTF they edited in at the end there, so im confused!

PS:  Intro rocked!  Great job Vinny?

Looking forward to Wargames FAR more than Tron.  I mean, Tron was great for its time, but I can still watch Wargames today and not think it looks like a terrible movie.  Number of players = 0.

I saw Tron for the first time a year ago. Although I could (consciously) appreciate it for what it was in the context of its time, it was indeed incredibly difficult to sit through. It's tough criticizing something so beloved, but as a movie it was pretty bad. I think it's safe to equate it to Avatar - the primary focus was on the tech, and the script was ignored. Also, not a fan of the theme music.

I think Ryan is a rather good reviewer of films but missed a huge part of tron in this review, the soundtrack and sound editing!.  The sound of the bikes, the score of the movie, everything on the sound front of this movie is considered some of the best work done in the 80s.  Current bands like Daft punk still consider the soundtrack to Tron one their biggest influences.  To not mention the sound work on Tron is a major oversight and I would argue alone makes teh review invalid.

I disagree with most of the rest of his review, but that comes down more to taste then fact.

I 100% agree with you.  I doubt it is what Ryan meant but it came off as him saying anything in black & white looks bad when compared to color which just isn't true.

Ryan, is it too hard for you to do research?

TRON was the first movie to use CG and it was rendered in the mid 70s by none other than (then fledgling military simulation studio) Evans and Sunderland.  It was also realised on paper in concept art in the early 70s by well known futurist Syd Mead (who has worked on a few famous and infamous computer games and who is well respected by Hideo Kojima, himself a fan of Bladerunner which Mead also worked on) and some of his artwork was transferred to glass plate and is seen in the movie.

The movie was held back by Disney for almost 3 years prior to its release in 1982.  It was in the can in '77.

Also, the critical comments you made regarding camera direction are rather silly and could easily be aimed at almost every movie produced in the 70s and early 80s with the small exception of a spare few standout productions like Star Wars.  Even crtically acclaimed hits like Kramer vs Kramer and 2001 were rife with long tracking shots.  It was common back then.

The further attacking of the art design is hilarious considering your own 'production' techniques riff off '70s TV in a vain attempt to grasp for street cred.  Try aiming for something original and see what people will be saying of your ideas in 40 years time.  I'm sure some troll-as-commentator will come along and complain about your work too.
