I can't wait for Civ VI to drop in the 21st.I've been watching and reading every preview I can find! I can't decide on which Civ to play first. My girlfriend says she is just going to hit the randomize button... And maybe that's best.. But which Civ are you folks going to play on day one?
Sid Meier's Civilization VI
Game » consists of 9 releases. Released Oct 21, 2016
The 6th mainline entry in the acclaimed 4X series.
Which Civ will you play first?
I am going to go for a traditionally powerful civ like Rome or Britain. That way I will be buffered a bit when I make tons of mistakes.
Might go random since I don't think my Dutch Crew is available. Rome looks preeeetay nice, but I'll see if there are any big trading civs up for grabs.
It's tempting to start out with something stupidly strong like Rome, China or possibly Russia, but then it's gonna suck playing the other ones and being used to completely different timings. It would be like Shoshone or pre-nerf France in Civ 5 all over again, which made every other civ feel sooo slow.
I have no idea if I should even buy it day one because their past few games have always been broken at launch. I bought so many broken games this year and then forgotten them, like XCOM 2.
Greece most likely. I like the flexibility of their bonus wild card policy. Other than that I really like culture civs. China and France are some that I'm considering. India would be cool as well since the ai is so focused on giving you their religion all the time.
I definitely don't want to start as Rome since they get a little too many freebies for me to nail down a solid build order in the beginning of the game. Don't want to get used to free roads and buildings before I know the game.
@mezza: I hear you on that. I'm thinking it might be interesting to be Kongo just on the basis that you don't have to worry about spreading your own religion and you get the benefits of it (I didn't like religion in Civ V) but if I do that I might not learn all the cool new religion mechanics as well.
@peezmachine: Egypt and Spain both have some interesting sounding trading bonuses. Rome also gets free trading posts on each city and money for internal trade routes
@alistercat: ugh I did that with XCOM2 also. I should go back and see if it has been fixed. The previews of Civ VI have only mentioned a couple of bugs so far... I hope they finally have fixed the net code for Civ because it was terrible on Civ V
@livingitlarge224: I was the same way with religion in V. The bonuses were nice but the actual process of keeping it spread against other religious Civ's on a Pangaea felt like a hassle. I mainly just used it for the bonus buildings and didn't bother trying to spread it too much. Kongo seems like it should be really cool. I may end up playing them a lot just for their lack of a need to start a religion. Coming off of Civ V where all of the Civs are fairly similar, its really hard to pick a favorite from what we've seen in VI. All of them seem unique and interesting in their own way which is nice. The random button may be the way to go after all.
I just looked up the leader bonuses and I'm a pretty big fan of how thematic they all are. I got a kick out of Peter the Great getting extra culture and science from trade routes with civs more cultured and scientific than him.
I'm still wary about getting the game at launch, but if I do, I'll probably pick Rome as a first civ since it seems to have strong all-around bonuses.
I'm thinking Germany. I was waiting for the reveal of Russia to decide and since i'll be starting on one of the easier difficulties Peter trait as a leader doesn't seem very useful
@effache: You probably want Japan! They get extra theme bonuses for district adjacencies (of which the city centre counts as one) and they build districts at half price!
@mezza: yeah it is really cool seeing them trying to make the Civs actually play differently and I've been wanting them to do the map bonuses thing for years!
'Murica. I usually play my country first. Plus I like they picked Roosevelt as the leader. Then I'll go with my heritage and play Norway.
I'm kinda happy I dont really know much about CivVI yet, so I'll just decide by gut feeling or go random. Looking forward to it though.
Almost always Rome.
I'm a big fan of Roman history, and they tend to have a good early game while I'm learning the ropes.
MURICAH
maybe
also not related but how dumb would i be to splurge for the deluxe edition on GMG? don't know how badly i want the dlc or if i'll be sated with the base game for a while.
If it doesn't have India led by Gandhi, then I won't care about the game. It ain't Civ without India and Gandhi.
India's leader is Gandhi as always, don't worry
@onemanarmyy: nope, not in the base game. There are 18 civs + 1 for preordering (the Aztec)
Here is a list of them
@ninjalegend: One day they will hopefully have a Canada Civ... When I want to play Canada, I either download a mediocre mod or just choose Russia and play pretend, haha
@cagliostro88: Gandhi is the only returning leader from Civ V, weirdly enough!
@cagliostro88: oh well, there's still DLC dreams.
@livingitlarge224: @ Then again, Gandhi appears in all the Civ games.
As for me, likely be playing as the Arabians due to regional bias.
Russia or Egypt probably.... Something about Egypt always felt like a classic of Civ stuff. Russia however seems a bit like the new Shoshone from Civ 5.... which I enjoy a lot.... I am obsessed with tile growth in civ games so hard not to consider that one.
Arabian, Japan, German, or Sumerian? Pretty much civ that gets science and production boost I am interested.
I am going to miss my 18th century Korean stealth bombers...
@soberdude: Elizabeth, Shaka, Julius Caesar, Montezuma II (Montezuma the first leads Aztec this time), and Genghis had been in all the other games but do not return (so far) to Civ VI. At this point Gandhi is the last surviving original Civ leader
@alavapenguin: yeah that extra tile ability seems like it would be especially powerful in Civ VI with all that extra emphasis on developing the land around you
For anyone who wants an overview of all the new abilities, this is a great video for you:
WHY IS THERE STILL NO CANADA!!!!!
Its part of UK
WHY IS THERE STILL NO CANADA!!!!!
