I've seen it brought up a time or two but I really do think the page needs to be trimmed up a little bit.

By saying this I mean games like Fallout, and Elder Scrolls cannot be on this list much like any character in a text based game. Just because you don't hear your character doesn't mean nobody does.

Sorry to bring it up again, but I saw the last time this was really discussed was like 3 years ago.

Also, the character from the original Saints Row isn't a "silent" protagonist, he speaks like 3 times

Unless at the start a character you are introduced to doesnt say something like "you dont talk much do you" It isnt a silent protagonist.

I haven't played many of the more recent Zelda games, but it's heavily implied in OoT that he responds to characters speaking to him. The player just never sees or hears it.

So then he's silent because we never actually hear him speak.

Sounds good to me. Pretty comical. I would love to go back to games with "silent protagonists" and see how times this line comes up.

Also, FO3 doesn't count if you want to be picky because you make gurgling noises as a child, and as an adult you grunt when you're hit.

    Does pre-N64 mario count?

If it is not audible for the player then it is a silent protagonist

Point Man from FEAR1 and 3 doesn't talk, ever. Not even in FEAR 3 where he has a full character model and appears in cutscenes as an actual character. The most he ever does is grunt. Fettel does all the talking and exposition.

Plus he's all like "HUAAAA! RUUHHH! HAWW!" When you're rolling around like a madman because it's faster than walking.

People have to be so goddamned literal on the internet, don't they? Silent protagonist means a protagonist who doesn't speak at all. If a protagonist speaks, even in text, they are not a "Silent Protagonist."

Grunts and mumbles and infant gurgles don't count because that is not speech.
