Overview
SimGolf, not to be confused with Sid Meier's SimGolf, is a behind-the-back golf simulation game developed and published by Maxis for Windows PCs in 1996.
One of the games bearing the studio's "Sim" moniker, SimGolf builds on the traditional golf sim with an in-depth course editor, known as the Course Architect. It also features an optional mouse-based precision swing interface (known as "MouseSwing"), as well as online multiplayer.
The game includes recreations of two courses designed by course architect Robert Trent Jones, Jr.: The Prince Course in Hawaii and Rancho La Quinta in California. It also includes video tips by Jones, Jr. himself, both with course design and with shot strategy.
Some European boxed releases of the game include an actual golf ball inside the box.
