Sin and Punishment VC Review
Sin and Punishment was originally released for the Nintendo 64 platform way back in the year 2000 in the land of the rising sun. Developed by Treasure and published by Nintendo the game was never released stateside for reasons which I cannot guess. Perhaps Nintendo thought it wouldn't do well in the American market back then but for whatever reason they have decided to give it a shot now 7 years later.
Now my first impression of the game was a rather shocked one. I expected the game to be... well more Japanese; However, it seems Nintendo played a little game of touch up and added English menus and from what I have read even a training mode. The game also has voices in English with Japaneses subtitles which from what I hear was in the original release ( which makes me wonder even more why Nintendo kept us waiting so long for this game ).
When comparing it to other 64 games I would say the visuals are pretty standard. The character models are a bit odd if you ask me but in game the sheer amount of enemies you see on screen and the size of some of them can impress so overall i would say nothing spectacular but above average.
The gameplay for Sin and Punishment is actually pretty enjoyable theres constantly action going on the screen and its rarly interrupted. You get a few cut scenes here and there with ( in my opinion bad ) voice acting but they can always be skipped by pressing start if you find yourself not interested in the story.
As far as controls go I would suggest you try training mode for a while to get used to them on if your using the gamecube controller . When using the classic controller you can just jump right in and use the dpad for movement while using the right analog stick for aiming since the classic Dpad is much more comfortable to use than the dinky little dpad on the gamecube controller. Shooting is a bit awkward at first with the pressure sensitive L batten that act as the "Z" button but you can get away with just holding it down if it gets annoying for you.
Overall I would say its a good buy if your a fan of previous work from Treasure like Gunstar Heroes or even if your just a fan of arcade shooters. The 20 % extra cost for it being an import is well worth it if you ask me as the original cart usually goes for over 40 dollars on ebay anyways plus you get English menus for better ease of use.
Hopefully this is a start of a new trend for Nintendo bringing more classic games that never made it stateside.
