    Hey guys,

So - I'm a relatively new to being an adult and have recently found that I have far more money to buy games than I have time to play games - an issue that is in no way helped by Steam's crazy sales and digital delivery system.

I wanted to know exactly how much money I was wasting on said games, so I wrote this PHP scrape script (currently demoing my personal Steam ID) to figure it out. Note that this isn't necessarily accurate, just going off of what Steam provides - it does include DLC and mark it as unplayed (-1).

Anyhow, I decided to try it with the Whiskey Media staffers. Enjoy!

    Jeff - 955 games / 7.43% played

    Vinny - 175 games / 37.71% played

    Ryan - 80 games / 38.75% played

    Brad - 931 games / 6.02% played

Patrick - 921 games / 0.43% played (that's FOUR games played; a clear winner in my book)

    Dave Snider - 202 games / 49.01% played

    Kessler - 254 games / 50.79% played

    Norman - 925 games / 6.7% played

    Gary Whitta - 921 games / 1.95% played (definitely a solid effort)

    Ana - 9 games / 88.89% played

    Matt Braga - 109 games / 28.44% played

Try it for yourself, just insert your ID or profile number into the end of the URL. Or then again, maybe don't if you want your wallet to retain its dignity.

Jesus christ, Patrick. What's goin' on?

I'm pretty sure they can get games free on steam as Press copies, so a lot of these may have been sent to them.

64 games with 44 played(68.75%). Most of the games I have not played were from indie packs. Still, I should give them a shot.

Also, fuck you TF2 Beta. I don't even know why you are there and I'm pretty sure I can't get rid of you. Messing up my percentages is so not cool.

Also, I've found that STEAM doesn't accurately record your play times, as on my account it says I have no hours logged on the Original portal, where I most definatly have atleast 10 across numerous playthroughs

my point being that the -1's are probably not all accurate.

I don't know if i really like this... What I play, and how much, is my choice. As a side note, the "111 hours" I've spent play Star Trek Online must have been the time I spent letting update and walking away.

Pretty good. The 12 I haven't played include 11 random games from Humble Indie Bundles, and one of the expansions for the original Half-Life. That being said, I only recently got a PC good enough to run modern games, and this last Steam sale has been the first one ever I've actually taken advantage of.

Jeff, Brad, Patrick, etc have Steam Journalism/Press accounts, so that's probably not a great indication of their played percentage.

Some of those unplayed games I just bought, some of them were incidental downloads that I never intend to play (like the Half Life: Deathmatch games). And for some reason, it's listing the Borderlands DLC seperate, when I don't even own two of them (Underdome Riot and Zombie Island). But hey, at least I'm giving most of my games a try.

Also, only 508 hours for TF2. And I don't see a problem with that.

It says I played just 45 of 82 (54.88%), but after looking at the ones it said I haven't played, I have in fact played at least 60 of them. That makes the % closer to 73%. Pretty much every game I haven't played was a sale item, 4 or 5 of which I haven't had a chance to play yet.

Steam didn't start counting and retaining your hours played until fairly recently.

The issue with that is that due to sales events and bundles the number would be way off, but more importantly I'd have to find a way to store the prices of all of those games somewhere and potentially make thousands of database calls each pageview.

As for your site... I like it. Although it would be better if the pictures were all the same size. I love the updates when you mouse hover a game, though. Keep up the good work.

Well if you was to play it an hour a day for year that's already 365 hours, so throw in the odd day of playing it for 3 hours+ it'll soon add up. (that and the game has been out for nearly four years)

Plus TF2 doesn't get boring, fact! (scientifically proven by Doc Brown)

308 games, 38.96%, 1074h ... but, yeah, it lists Borderlands and and Defense Grid map packs: stuff you can't actually run, as well as a bunch of games I've played outside of steam, that I want easier access to for future gaming.

    Still, very interesting :)

Edit: any chance of blacklisting certain IDs (DLC) for a more accurate view? Though, I guess that'd increase the complexity by several factors...

I play a lot offline though and Steam won't track stats in that mode so total hours and maybe even played games total may well be different to what is stated.

650 hours in TF2, plus the ~200 I played before Steam started tracking hours played (that started in March 2009, for those wondering).

    As for my efficiency:

    Total games: 379

    Played games: 159 (41.95%)

    Unplayed games: 220 (58.05%)

    Total hours: 1793.1

Interestingly, Spiral Knights is my Number 2 most played game (though if you combine games with split hours like Dawn of War 2/Chaos Rising/Retribution or Peggle/Peggle Nights then its beaten out by a few).

Kessler seems to be the smartest at purchasing large amounts of games and playing them.

Although total hours should be more than that. it only counts those when I was connected online. It also counts as unplayed some DLC (ie for Borderlands) . In my case ther should be 202 games owned.

60% is much better than I thought, but I have played most of those games for less than an hour.

444 of them are in Team fortress 2 alone, wich hasn't really been counting a lot since in-game stats show close to 800 hrs of playtime. Fairly certain this applies to everyones accounts (playing offline, not connected to the Steam servers etc.).

Great stat-holder! I'll share this with my friends.

My stats were destroyed by the latest sale - I've mostly bought games I already played and owned in some form and just wanted to have them forever and I didn't play them yet on steam.
