A Special Video Tribute to Street Fighter IV

On April 27 we say goodbye to a dear friend. Yes, the release of Super Street Fighter IV is most definitely something to celebrate, but we can't ever forget just how much the original Street Fighter IV boosted the fighting game community. From its debut in the arcades to the incredibly successful console release, Street Fighter IV blew the doors off what was once a considerably tough community to crack and I for one am glad for that.

For as much as I'm praising SF4, it's by no means a perfect game. In fact, at times its a downright silly display of dumb luck and head-scratching nonsense. Super Street Fighter IV fixes a lot of these instances but no doubt, in time we'll discover new quirks in which to ragequit over. But for now, let's take a look back and pay respect to the game that brought us all together. Also, don't forget to stay tuned after the credits!

Good night, sweet prince; And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.

Good stuff! I actually feel like I am saying goodbye to a friend, SFIV is the first video game that completely connected with me. I know Super will be fucking amazing, but a part of me is still sad that my copy of IV is going to collect dust very soon.

God I am lame :(

Great video. Gonna miss SF4 myself, even though I didn't spend all that long actually playing it.

Great video ^^

SFIV is the game that got me to actually get a gold account on xbox live. I'm sad that it'll be collecting dust but at the same time I played that game to the point the disk is having difficulties being read and flat out crashes to dashboard if someone picks Dhalsim or El Fuerte (and there's no laser burns or big scratches), sooo it's definitely time to move on ^^;

Magical.

Haha, nice video.  I'm excited to get into SSFIV from square one and learn the feeling of utter defeat all over again.

Street Fighter IV is the first fighting game I got into past simply playing with friends. Sure, my main Sagat is getting rightfully brought down from his absurdly high tier but it will only mean less people I defeat attributing it only to the fact that I use Sagat. Plus I really want to try out Makoto.

I put SFIV back on the shelf for the last time yesterday and I have to admit, I was kind of sad.

Really, cause when Super comes out, I'm gonna take my copy of SF4 to the back shed with a shotgun in my hand.

@MrJared:  That was fantastically well edited. Shame about some of the stuff that's going, but Super can't come soon enough.

I hold a bit of a special place for SF4. I'd more or less given up gaming by late 2008; I'd pick up the odd title here and there, play for a few hours and ditch it. SF4 reignited my competetive spirit and gave games the chance to be great fun locally again. Never before had I sat spending so many hours reading/watching and even fucking researching a game. My mates and I have invested about 500 hours into it (if not a little more), and I'm pretty fucking grateful. There were tears, fights, spilled beers a plenty; but it was always a total riot. Hitting the Giantbomb threads has been great - through it I've met some awesome players, stepped up my game and had a belter, but it was entirely thanks to this game.

I'm writing a fucking eulogy to a piece of software. Christ on a crumpet...

Doing sagat damage on maskless vega is cheating.

Hilarious.

Personally, I don't think of this as like the end of SFIV or anything. I plan to hold on to my copy of the game for a little while, at least. Then again, I didn't play it as much as a lot of you guys did. I think I'm barely over 100 hours. Anywho, I really enjoyed the video. I don't think I'm "elite" enough to hate all the things highlighted in it, but whatever. Bring on SSFIV. Bring on the beast.
#35 Posted by lordofultima (6248 posts) -

Still brings a tear to my eye, even after the 15th view!

#36 Posted by Zanetsu (131 posts) -

This video is so good. Great work man.

#37 Posted by Scooper (7881 posts) -

Watching this back again makes me want to go back and play some vanilla SFIV. The obscene damage of everything is quite appealing after playing Super for the past 7 months.

I'm just now seeing this for the first time. Bravo.
