This is in the third set of trials, as I try desperately to learn the game.

My only issue is that I can't seem to combine these correctly. I can pull off Ken's Target Combo (Med. Punch -> Heavy Punch) and I can do his Shoryuken (Forward, quartercircle forward + Punch), but I can't chain them. Sometimes I will do one, then the other immediately, but  either the Target Combo knocks the opponent out of Shoryuken range, or the Shoryuken doesn't get treated as a combo to the Target Combo.

This is my first sincere effort at being good at a Street Fighter title, so I was just curious if there's something I am missing? Any suggestions would really be appreciated.

Um, I'm not exactly sure of the trial, but try holding forward while doing the target combo and then when you're hitting the Heavy Punch do the QCF and hit HP again quickly?

I'll do it and get back to you.

I'll have to give that a try. That sounds incredibly plausible.

Quick question, what trial is this?

    Nevermind, 3rd set.

Alright, yeah. I can do it pretty easily, you just gotta hit the buttons quickly, but also my method which i mention above works well too. :)

@Stang: I hear you're the Ken man to see, which is why it's really, really unfortunate that I'm on PSN.

I do appreciate the offer, though. It was really generous, thank you.

    You manage it, man?

    @Stang: TargetCombo - HADOUKEN - SUPER
I think that combo looks awesome.

@Baillie: I managed to hit it once, but then the next trial asks me to go a Crouching HP into a Shoryuken, and I hit another road block.

I think when I did it, it was pure luck, to be honest. I'm not sure what I am doing wrong.

Occasionally when going from the Target Combo into the Shoryuken, I would accidentally Hadouken. Does this mean I am getting something wrong with the original Forward?

    I have no idea.

@Mmmslash: For this one, try doing the SRK shortcut. So try this...

Diagonal Down Forward + MP - Diagonal Down Forward + MP.

@Baillie: It might look cool, but it is worthless. Not only is the target combo useless in many situations, it makes super/ultra damage scale down due to the unnecessary inputs. There are much better alternatives.

@Mmmslash: That sucks. Let me know if i can help you out, we need more good Kens out there.

@Stang: That's why I said looks cool. I mean I think Ryu's Jump HP - Crouch HP - EX Hurrican Kick - Ultra looks cool. But the damage scale sucks.

@Baillie: You are not allowed to complain about Ryu and damage scaling! The same damn combo:

Ken: fp srk fadc ultra - 310 damage
Ryu: fp srk fadc ultra - 470 damage

I am not sure about the damage output on the combo you mentioned, but I know it is over 400....I wish Ken had that luxury. I hate you :(

How differently  does Ryu play to Ken? For how much I play its a bit of a ridiculous question, but online people seem to play them similarly, and I never gave either the time of day really (though I've been thinking of picking up a couple of new characters and Ken came to mind).

@GetEveryone: Ryu is all about spacing, his fireball pressure is where it all begins. Ken's fireball is garbage, spacing is not as easy with him compared to all the other shoto's. The key with Ken is pressure...once you knock somebody down, don't let up.

They are supposed to be played completely opposite in my opinion. Ken and Ryu seem to play the same because people play them the same way, and it doesn't work for Ken. Ken is all about closing the gap, Ryu is about opening the gap.

@Mmmslash: If you are going to do combos that end with srk's, make sure you learn how to fadc. I will never combo with srk unless I have 2 bars so I can cancel the srk in case it is blocked. More often then not, I get a free throw after the focus cancel, and more importantly, I am not allowing my opponent to go ape shit on me for missing a srk. Even in G1 I see a shit load of shoto's who let blocked srk's go when they could have canceled them....so dumb.

@Mmmslash: Do you know what it means to fadc? If not, it simply means to cancel a special move. All you need to do is mp + mk after you do the special move, but to do so you must have 2 special meters. So, for your combo:

mp-fp xx srk, but if the srk is blocked, hit mp + mk during the second hit of the fierce srk, then quickly tap forward. Now you will be able to start another combo, throw, do a full screen ultra....what ever you decide is appropriate.

@Stang: I didn't know! I knew how to focus attack, but I still haven't messed much with it.

So you're saying when I would go to do the Target Combo -> Shoryuken, I'd use focus to cancel out of a missed Shoryuken?

It's pretty much like this. The Shoryuken has 2-4 hits, and after the first you can use focus to cancel out of it, then dash and do another combo. This would be effective if the SRK was blocked or you just want to go all ULTRA PRO like stang.

Best thing to do is start the shoryu motion as you're pushing HP. If you need more help, I play Ken on PSN so just send me an invite.
