A True Classic
If you're reading this you've come across one of t he true gems of the SNES. Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts is one of the most challenging games of it's console. For anyone who has played the original for the NES you know exactly what you're getting into. The game's hit detection is one of it's best and worst qualities. It is pretty damn accurate which means enemies go down with the right timing on your behalf but the same goes for you from enemies. The game goes on the ol' 1 hit 1 kill quality which is to say that if you're not wearing armor and you get it hit... you die. The upside to this is that there are possibilities to upgrade your longevity via armor power-ups (3 in all, Gray-> Green-> Gold the last of which allows you to overcharge whatever weapon you're carrying and unleash a devastating super-attack) and will allow you to be hit 2 times before you get killed. Players are also able to open the options menu and increase their number of continues if you think you'll be needing them (which I highly recommend).
The games weapons are crazy-fun and give the game a bit of longevity always making you hope for the right weapon at the right time, granted you're looking to improve upon what you've already got. The enemies (for the most part) are fairly simple to kill but the games other dynamics (i.e. pitfalls and pop-up enemies) are another story which add to the game's difficulty. The music is fitting for each level and in a way carries it's own (often creepy and haunting) charm. This game's difficulty is what sets it apart from so many of today's games which seem to be getting easier and easier to beat. 21 years later and I still haven't been able to fully complete this title which makes it yet another rather noteworthy one.
