    Overview

Super Shanghai 2005 is a mahjong solitaire game developed and published by Starfish (under license from Activision and SUNSOFT) for the PlayStation 2 in Japan on November 25, 2004.

Part of the Shanghai series, Super Shanghai 2005 shares the name and logo with HOT-B's adaptations of Shanghai II: Dragon's Eye (as Starfish acquired their licensing) and includes four game modes:

    • Professional Mode - Traditional mahjong solitaire. Time-based.
    • Rensha Shanghai Mode - New to the series. Score-based. Players now have a queue of "Target Tiles" that starts at three and expands from the center as more matches are made, up to 7. Once players have made matches for each of the highlighted Target Tiles (one on the left of the queue and one on the right of the queue), the game automatically makes a match for all Target Tiles in-between regardless of their availability, with a chain multiplier based on how many matches were made.
    • Pop-Up Shanghai Mode - New to the series. Score-based.
    • Bukyou - New to the series. Two-player competitive multiplayer.

It is unique for its optional two-cursor control scheme, where each of the controller's analog sticks corresponds to a different "hand" cursor. It also supports free camera perspective, allowing players to rotate and zoom the camera around the game board.

It was later ported to arcades (using Dreamcast-based Sega NAOMI hardware) in 2005. This version removes both the two-cursor control scheme and customizable camera perspective.
