Super Smash Bros. won't be released in Japan for a few days yet, but some Japanese streamers have already gotten their hands on the game. It's unclear if Nintendo will ever tell gema_yue to stop streaming the game, but for the moment, they're going gangbusters, and unearthing the game's many secrets.

Playable versions of Wario, Ganondorf, Dr. Mario, the Duck Hunt dog, Dark Pit, Ness, Falco and Mr. Game and Watch have all been found so far.

Kinda underwhelmed by the roster, to be honest. Did we REALLY need a second pit? Duck Hunt Dog is pretty rad though.

I can't help but wonder if all of this will change how Nintendo gives out press/ESRB copies of games in the future?

Nah. It's possible to get games early in Japan really easily. I have friends who do it all the time.

As far as I'm aware, while the leaked screens came from the ESRB copy, these actual playable copies of the game appear to come from a Japanese game store that broke their street date.

Also: Captain Falcon, Bowser Jr. (and 7 koopalings as alternate costumes), and Lucina have also been unlocked.

Well, this time it's probably just retailers selling it early. 8-4 talk about that all the time, seems you just have to know where to look.

Yeah. I think Nintendo (and Twitch) find themselves wondering how to handle it. And personally, why I think region locking is an absolute farce in an internet connected world.

Nintendo not seeing a point in Twitch is like carriage makers scoffing at new fangled automobiles in the 1900s.

Is it fair to Japanese or European streamers to ban them from streaming games simply because America can't buy them yet? Or even, to rip their audiences away with IP blocking, should Twitch venture down that dark path?

I think the only good answer here, is for games to do global releases, instead of this silly back and forth dance the three Nintendos always seem to get caught up in.

Anyways, the game is getting a lot of good buzz in the Smash community right now. I have no interest in playing the game, but I like watching competitive Smash from time to time so I hope this is picked up by that community.

A leak shortly after the first text leak of BJ and Duck Hunt named BJ, Duck Hunt, Dixie, Ridley, Mewtwo and Chorus. Really hoping that leak was right. Or atleast that Dixie is in.

Thought the inclusion of the Duck Hunt dog was genius. But seeing him all 3D just looks like a generic, boring whatever.

Sure, he only had 2 different animations from the waist up in the original game, but... man. If you're gonna do the weird stuff, make it weird!

They were right about literally everything else, so we shall see.

I'm pretty sure decisions like that are less, "Man, you know what would be really cool? A second Pit!" and more, "Man, our combat designers have some free time but we don't have nearly enough bandwidth to model/animate an entirely new character. Alternate attack properties? Alternate attack properties."

I'm a fan of Nintendo, but I don't see any point in getting Smash Bros on 3DS when the Wii U one comes out a few months later...

Man, I can't help but feel bad for Masahiro Sakurai. The man claimed the reason why he didn't put a Subspace Embassy mode into this iteration was because the internet was spoiling the secrets behind that mode and didn't want any spoilers. He and his team also must put a lot of work into those character reveal trailers to have his viewers see the new characters for the first time. Now we have streamers out there not only confirming that one leak a while ago to be true, but ruining the fun of finding out how we can unlock these characters. Sorry Sakurai.

All that said, I'm happy with the roster we've gotten and look forward to playing this game in the future.

I think he / she's referring to the earlier leak of info in August which have basically been confirmed by these early release videos, which probably were leaked from a ESRB copy of the game.

Doesn't change much about the answer though: IIRC the ESRB rating is "mandatory" for all games sold in the US? And don't they just typically receive a short descriptor text with an accompanying DVD with game footage, not a playable copy of the game?

Isn't Ness a new unlock? As he still hasn't been announced and I just saw him on the roster?!! (Which I am super happy about!!)

This just makes me more excited to play it, and then realize I still have to wait until the beginning of October. That's too far away :(.

Thanks for all the fast responses to my question folks! I was in fact referring to all the leaks that have been happening in general around Smash Brothers. I was not in fact aware that it was so easy to get a game early in Japan (or that stores would sale a copy before the game was suppose to come out as I thought that would get them sued).Also for the record I am a 'she' lol.

Well, I'm really satisfied with all the new characters added. I even kind of like Dark Pit, at least in comparison to characters like Falco or Dr. Mario (I think they're all spots that could have been better used for other characters if they had the resources to do so).

That being said, after seeing how much content is being added to Mario Kart 8 post release, I'm pretty convinced that there will be DLC for the game. Probably characters, stages, and/or costumes.

Maybe there is hope for Ridley yet.

@berniesbc: ok im totally wrong about that last part ( this game its my gta5 ,destiny or witcher3) but i still stand in my position with Dr or Dp, its just seems lazy and I dont want to wait another 8 years for k rool, dixie etc, specially with nintendo current situation.

It's really a shame that Ridley's insane proportions keep him out of Smash as a playable character. It's a lame excuse, considering that Kirby is supposed to be like 8 inches tall and Bowser varies in size from Mario game to Mario game. Ridley is probably the one character that continues to get people saying that a Smash roster is disappointing. Plus, Metroid needs more representation.

Personally, Smash 4 is looking good to me. My main man Link wasn't going anywhere, I was super happy that Sonic made an unexpected return, and they added my most wanted new comer: Lil' Mac. You'll hear no complaints from me.

If nothing else, Ridley's shadow is in the game.

I was watching all this madness last night/early this morning and it was great. The chat was going nuts when a challenger was approaching. This and the Wii U version need to hurry up. I really hope the Wii U version doesn't get delayed till next year.

They do and that's what happened, screencaps of it just happened to leak out. Whether the leaks originated from NoA or the ESRB remains to be seen.

I personally love the final roster! Going to miss IC and would of loved to see Chorus Men but that list is SOLID.
