Capcom and Sony sponsored an event that allowed the public to play Super Street Fighter IV , which launches on Tuesday. I was one of the many gamers who showed up to the place, and while it had its painful moments, I still had some fun.
I left home after 6:00pm. It’s about a 30 minute drive, but I did get there a little later than I would have liked to because the building was well hidden. When I DID arrive, I messaged VinceNotVance and we committed a crime…by him letting me cut ahead in line to where he was. Here’s where it gets bad: the line was awful! The event was scheduled to start at 8:00pm, but we were not able to set foot into the building until after 10:00pm. In the meantime, everyone just stood around and made jokes of the matter. The crowd was a typical nerd fest, but I did think it was really strange that I saw someone with a three year old. Also, Vince didn’t really think about it, but I told him I noticed Star, a contestant from PSN’s The Tester, was also waiting in line, and I was right! Random…
Okay, so eventually we did get inside the club and went through the bouncer-looking types. Several Playstation 3 kiosks were around, some with fightsticks. There were a couple more kiosks, a couple with Final Fight, and Street Fighter IV…on the iPhone. There was a giant projection streaming from the middle of the room, and you were bound to bump into cosplayers as you walked about. I played a couple matches of SSFIV, and lost…-_-‘
Other weirdness included some sort of oil wrestling competition; some face painting, holographic photograph shoots, and the English voice actors went up on stage and autographed stuff, like fightsticks. Did I get any free swag? Well, just one poster. I was told that the first couple hundred received a T-shirt and a couple more posters though. The whole event ended with a Double K.O. between Wong and Daigo, which was followed by a healthy applause. That pretty much sums up the event.
Here are some photos I took, but the quality of them varies:
