Fighting games aren't like other online games when it comes to that stuff because the competitive scene for fighting games predates the internet, whereas the competitive scene for shooters is enabled by the internet. Fighting game culture has a weird tribal thing when it comes to regional associations, though. I guess you could count that? Fighting games don't lend themselves to organized teams anyway, because at a tournament there's only one winner, and motherfuckers want to get paid.

Fighting games are 1-on-1, there is no need for teamwork, and thus no clans. There are organizations such as Empire Arcadia which take players under their wing to help them level up their game, and in the case of Justin Wong, he gets his paychecks there as well. This is all in real life though, you know like "hey what's up, high five, I'm right next to you" real life.

Well, people do team up for 2 vs 2, or 3 vs 3 in tournaments but there isn't really and collective strategy on the characters aside from everyone using a different character to supplement their partner's characters weaknesses.

No clans, though there are unofficial groups that all tend to play together in EB's to practise.

He's right most "clans" being more regional. The game does lay itself to teamplay. What makes you think any other game is different? You obviously never played in a team match while your boys are shouting things to look out for that maybe you didn't see or things they pass on to you when your up. Sorry my friend your wrong about it not being very conducive to team play. I am trying to get a clan together but it's gonna be again, like he mentioned people in the San Diego area who can play online and get together once a week for beat downs.

There are no clans or groups in the Street Fighter scene, just people who rep certain cliques that largely have to do with where they play. For example, back in the day you'd have tons of people representing Sunnyvale, Milpitas and Southern Hills Golflands, so a lot of it was the arcades. That still happens today, but obviously to a much lesser extent.

But now days it's more cliques than anything else. Keystone II, Empire Arcadia ... just the general gathering or grind spots. When it comes to team tournaments though, you'll have a few teams that are just named after a spot (typically the best players) but everyone else just comes up with a new, goofy name every time.
