Since Jeff brought it back up on last week's podcast, figure some GB duders may be interested in getting this.

Green Man gaming is having a daily deal today (11/17/12) on Syndicate. You can get it for 9.89. And if you use this code

    GMG20-1FYLZ-EDG8R

You can get it down to 7.92

    Enjoy

They asked for some kind of "verified by Visa" thing, which after Googling seems legit but it asked for my Social Security number. Even if it is legit, I just don't want to give that out to anyone who isn't an employer.

This is a great deal, the campaign is easily worth 8 bucks.

Its legit and actually goes straight to your bank, but its optional. Look carefully, you don't have to use that feature...I think the button you have to click is on the lower right of the verified by Visa dialog box. Beyond that though, it's only the last four digits of your social, and your bank already has that information anyway. Go for it.

Don't let that stop you dude. I bought Syndicate via Origin and it was fine...and it's a one time installation requirement, after that the game can be played Offline, without signing into Origin, whatever. I know it's not our beloved Steam but for this price, it's well worth it.

I eventually just went through Paypal, so it's all good. Now, when it's done downloading, who just bought it that will play some co-op?

Yea, GMG has always been weird to use with my bank card, mostly cause they're not located in the US, so I just use PayPal. Made it way easier.

@Butano: Ugh, PayPal...be careful who you trust with access to your bank account. It's off topic but here's a quick recap of what they did to me:

    1. I discover my PayPal account which I've been using for seven or eight years is locked...there was a $200 balance in there at the time.

    2. I call them, they tell me that I had another PayPal account in the past which is $800 in the hole, and that in order to use my account again I have to pay them. I've only ever had one account, it's clearly an error. They have already taken the $200 to apply towards this alleged debt.

    3. I am told that there is no way to dispute this, their "system" has verified it was my account and I'm liable for it. Furthermore, the douchebag customer "service" rep on the phone tells me that since I agreed to their Terms of Service, they can actually withdraw the money I "owe" them straight from my bank account at any time, but they were "giving me the courtesy of allowing me ten days to pay the remaining $600."

    4. I told them to fuck off, went and changed my account numbers at the bank, and never so much as logged in to my account there again. They stole $200 from me and there's pretty much nothing I can do about it since the few letters I wrote them were only answered by demands to pay them more money. I could sue them but it would take time and money and I'd probably end up only getting me $200 back and then I'd still be left in a position of never wanting to use PayPal again.

Fuck PayPal, fuck them right in their stupid asses.

@MB: Ouch! That blows. Luckily, I've only had one account linked with them for about 4-5 years now, and I've never had any incidents happen. So, if I do ever close the account, make sure I take it off PayPal it looks like then. Good to know.

I first ran across verified by visa on newegg in the late 90s I think. So yeah, legit and all that.

The SS stuff is kind of odd, but I'm to the point where i think that particular number is so widely distributed that it is of limited use as a identifier.

Syndicate was some of the most disappointing 45minutes of gaming I've had in years though >.>.

Can you elaborate a little why you didn't like it?

I thought the campaign was fun, the game looked and sounded great, and the weapons were pretty cool. It wasn't the best FPS ever, but I wasn't expecting it to be. Thankfully I also wasn't expecting it to be anything like the first game, either.

It's a good game for that price. I was really disappointed in it because of its potential but still a pretty fun game for cheap. You can probably beat it in one sitting too.

I'd just like to add that none of the people who worked on this game remain with the company today, just about everybody, even the last one who left did it in disgust (EA SwedishSpouse basically), and that this really is one of the finest FPS games of the year when it comes to single-player (so far).

@MB: Paypal are shady as hell. There's tonnes of stories (legit, fairly substantial stories) of individuals and businesses having their accounts locked when their balances were in the black.

I canned my Paypal account not long ago, after some issues with Microsoft (and it turns out they're still charging me, despite my XBL account still being a free one), and haven't looked back.
