PeriAreion …Reimagined.
I’ll start abruptly, I don’t think this game has been given a goddam f*****g chance.
There, I feel better. It is a quality game, and after 5-6 hours play (I’ve been busy with work ‘grrr’) I still find that I will go back - don’t get me wrong though, it definitely has a lot of flaws! However, it’s the sense of ‘you’re on your own’ that I like about it and which kept me coming back for more. In some respects I think the developers could have just had one character. After all, the characters in the game do not interact; they merely let you carry out tasks simultaneously. What would have been better is if you had to earn helpers, such as, robots, or even Martians for example. You should take the role of the character from the start, think EA sports face mapping. I would accept a 2D picture that I have uploaded in game, of my ugly mug, stuck on the guy’s face! Then I set out on my Martian adventure.
I like the exploration aspect of the game, and the sense of baroness as well as width, height and length of the maps. There are a lot of areas to go to, each posing difficulties, such as harsh weather, or increased levels of CO2 due to your guy running out of Oxygen. All of these difficulties I could imagine would happen to someone trying to ‘make it’ on Mars. I haven’t encountered any aliens yet, and I’m glad, as stated before - I like that sense of loneliness. Besides, the elements of Mars are more than enough of a test to the most skilled astronaut/cosmonaut/Pckeyboardbuttonbasher.
At the end of the day, the game is easy going, not stressful and a decent ‘indie’ genre / simulation game. At the end of the day I stick by the motto ‘you get what you pay for’ – at 10 quid (£10/€13.53) the game is worth the gamble. What is it? A round of drinks at the bar on Friday night….
