Tarik Barleti was captain of the Janissaries during Sultan Bayazid's reign of the Ottoman Empire. Barleti was known for his admiration for Prince Salim I and his hatred of Prince Ahmet. As captain of the Janissaries, Barleti made it his mission to wipe out the Byzantine influence in Constantinople. After Ezio thwart a Templar attempt to capture Prince Suleiman, he and Suleiman become suspicious of Tarik and believe he was behind the attempt. Following the attack at the Topkapı Palace, Tarik agrees to give sell weapons to Byzantine heir Manuel Palaiologos so he could find the Masayaf keys. Barleti's deal with Palaiologos only furthered Ezio's suspicions, so much so that Ezio kills Tarik. However, when Ezio kills Tarik he learns that Tarik wasn't a traitor to the Ottoman Empire and that he was just trying to eliminate the Byzantine presence in Constantinople.
