Does anyone know any metal bands with music that might be fitting for Skyrim? Personally I wouldn't play anything instead of the great soundtrack while playing the game, but some music might get you "in the mood" to play Skyrim, and here are a few that I can think of:

Bathory - Nordland 1 & Nordland 2 (the album titles kind of speak for themselves =) )

Amorphis - Skyforger (Lyrics focus on Kalevaala, the national epic of Finland, fits Skyrims northern setting)

Moonsorrow - Kivenkantaja (Track 5 has some great atmosphere, you can almost feel the cold winds around you)

There are more, but those are the first that come to my mind. Do you have any other tips?

Any Scandinavian bands really. Mostly Amon Amarth. It's Viking Metal. Can't go wrong.

Also : Dethklok's I Tamper With Evidence At The Murder Site of Odin is pretty bad ass.

Also Hammerfall has some pretty epic battle stuff.

Blind Guardian.

i would suggest some Black Sabbath or Iron Maiden.

Old-school Within Temptation.

Picture scaling a mountain in Skyrim to this.

Stormblast by Dimmu Borgir, pretty damn epic with this game. Borknagar also fits very well, Archaic Course or Quintessence would be my suggestions. And as posted above, this game was kinda made for Amon Amarth. Thunder-Horse and The Lost Vikings are 2 more Dethklok songs that work. Especially The Lost Vikings, while you wander aimlessly in the snow looking for things to murder!

Pretty much anything by Man O War.

Agalloch.

I don't listen any of the metal you guys listed but Led Zeppelin has some great songs like Battle of Evermore or No Quarter that I feel fit the vibe of Skyrim quite nicely.

#13 Posted by nonny (15 posts) -

Was gonna say Agalloch before opening the thread, but Slayeric beat me to it. The entire album "Ashes against the Grain" is pure Skyrim

#14 Posted by falling_fast (2224 posts) -

anything by Agalloch and the Bergtatt and Kveldssanger albums by Ulver.

#15 Posted by MetalMoog (908 posts) -

Mastodon - Colony of Birchmen while wandering the forests Skyrim!

#16 Posted by thornie_delete (436 posts) -

Agalloch, Ulver, Burzum, First 2 Opeth records, and of course...

This.....so may times over and over

Nightwish - Dark Chest of Wonders

If this doesn't get you pumped for some dragon slaying, I don't know what will. I wish the rest of the album was this good.

Ensiferum comes to mind for me:

Ignore everything said by anybody else in this thread. You need to listen to Immortal. Immortal, Immortal, and more Immortal. Listen to anything from Blizzard Beasts (though particularly "Mountains of Might"), At the Heart of Winter, or Sons of Northern Darkness and you'll be good to go.

Edit: Summoning's Let Mortal Heroes Sing Your Fame and Oathbound are really good as well.

Lots of power metal would fit.

I'm rocking Avantasia when the dungeon soundtrack starts to bore me personally.

Most of Keep of Kalessin I would asume. Kolossus even has Oblivion-inspired artwork.

Here you go. Every song by these guys fit.

SIDE note Someone really should make a video of our favorite horse and use the Dethklok classic "Thunderhorse"

Sweet, I'm liking the videos people are posting. I'll put some of this on for my roommate when he plays later.

I think that everyone so far has pretty much posted everything I would've posted.

With that said, I've been jamming Unearth's The Oncoming Storm and The March for the majority of my playtime so far. Since I'm playing a very specific type of rules that involve me being gung-ho as fuck, it seemed appropriate.

While I concede that any and all Mastodon songs would work for Skyrim, the only appropriate choice is ísland, because VIKINGS!.

Cant beleive no one has mentioned Menhir:

Also Falkenbach would fit in me thinks:

Also summoning , Bathory viking albums , Burzum etc.

Hunters of the Sky? Hello?

It also brings a huge smile to my face to see other Agalloch fans on GB.

  • Immortal
  • Bathory
  • Avantasia
  • Demonaz
  • Rhapsody
  • Amon Amarth
  • Blind Guardian

But you should probably just listen to the game soundtrack since it's great.

Anything from Manowar if you have the lack of brain cells to take it.

falloch.

Pretty much anything Darkthrone or Burzum I guess. (Darkthrone's "Our dark lord will come" would probably fit pretty well for dragon battles).

The weird austrian fantasy black metal band Summoning could also work.

Pig Destroyer is perfect for every situation.

#47 Posted by Jotun (555 posts) -

Ensiferum, Wintersun, Norther, Suidakra, Kalmah, Ulver, Agalloch, Noumena, the first Disillusion album, Opeth, Immortal, Omnium Gatherum, Be'lakor.

There are tons of epic-sounding bands in melodic death metal, but these are some of my favorites.

Really? You can't believe no one has mentioned Menhir? An obscure German black metal band that nobody in the metal community even listens to?

Hell yeah. All great recommendations. I like your style.

#49 Posted by TatsurouXIII (652 posts) -

Ulver, Borknagar and Ultima Thule.

Anything rhapsody of fire, is perfect for this setting. It worked pretty good along with oblivion, but even more so for the viking-ish era of skyrim
