Does anyone know any metal bands with music that might be fitting for Skyrim? Personally I wouldn't play anything instead of the great soundtrack while playing the game, but some music might get you "in the mood" to play Skyrim, and here are a few that I can think of:

Bathory - Nordland 1 & Nordland 2 (the album titles kind of speak for themselves =) )

Amorphis - Skyforger (Lyrics focus on Kalevaala, the national epic of Finland, fits Skyrims northern setting)

Moonsorrow - Kivenkantaja (Track 5 has some great atmosphere, you can almost feel the cold winds around you)

There are more, but those are the first that come to my mind. Do you have any other tips?

Any Scandinavian bands really. Mostly Amon Amarth. It's Viking Metal. Can't go wrong.

Also : Dethklok's I Tamper With Evidence At The Murder Site of Odin is pretty bad ass.

Stormblast by Dimmu Borgir, pretty damn epic with this game. Borknagar also fits very well, Archaic Course or Quintessence would be my suggestions. And as posted above, this game was kinda made for Amon Amarth. Thunder-Horse and The Lost Vikings are 2 more Dethklok songs that work. Especially The Lost Vikings, while you wander aimlessly in the snow looking for things to murder!

I don't listen any of the metal you guys listed but Led Zeppelin has some great songs like Battle of Evermore or No Quarter that I feel fit the vibe of Skyrim quite nicely.

Ignore everything said by anybody else in this thread. You need to listen to Immortal. Immortal, Immortal, and more Immortal. Listen to anything from Blizzard Beasts (though particularly "Mountains of Might"), At the Heart of Winter, or Sons of Northern Darkness and you'll be good to go.

Edit: Summoning's Let Mortal Heroes Sing Your Fame and Oathbound are really good as well.

I think that everyone so far has pretty much posted everything I would've posted.

With that said, I've been jamming Unearth's The Oncoming Storm and The March for the majority of my playtime so far. Since I'm playing a very specific type of rules that involve me being gung-ho as fuck, it seemed appropriate.

Pretty much anything Darkthrone or Burzum I guess. (Darkthrone's "Our dark lord will come" would probably fit pretty well for dragon battles).

The weird austrian fantasy black metal band Summoning could also work.

Ensiferum, Wintersun, Norther, Suidakra, Kalmah, Ulver, Agalloch, Noumena, the first Disillusion album, Opeth, Immortal, Omnium Gatherum, Be'lakor.

There are tons of epic-sounding bands in melodic death metal, but these are some of my favorites.

Anything rhapsody of fire, is perfect for this setting. It worked pretty good along with oblivion, but even more so for the viking-ish era of skyrim
