    The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Game » consists of 30 releases. Released Nov 11, 2011

The fifth installment in Bethesda's Elder Scrolls franchise is set in the eponymous province of Skyrim, where the ancient threat of dragons, led by the sinister Alduin, is rising again to threaten all mortal races. Only the player, as the prophesied hero the Dovahkiin, can save the world from destruction.

So how many characters have you made? Or plan to make?

I am already on my second. About 15 hours in I decided I wanted to try a thief out. So now I'm a dual dagger wielding redgaurd thief. I think I might make a pure magic user next. But when will I ever finish the game at this rate, its like Dark Souls all over again. 3 different characters, but haven't completed the game yet.

How man characters have you made? If you're on your only one and can commit to a play-style your a stronger person that I. With every skill point purchase, buyers remorse settles in 5 minutes later.

I have 2 characters. My 1st was just kind of me getting a feel for the game, and what type of combat I liked most. I got about 30 hours in on that character and decided to reroll. My second character is a thief type character, focusing on dual daggers and bows. Oh, and sneaking, of course. ;)

Like you, my next character will be a magic user, most likely something similar to a warlock or necromancer...maybe possibly even a vampire!

I put about 12 hours into a duel-wielding Nord before getting bored of that and moving to a Khajiit stealth archer. I'm much happier with this character, and plan on making my way through as much of the game as possible with him. After that I'll probably grab some mods and start another, do something stupid with it.

I almost always have this problem with these types of games, Oblivion specifically. Never been able to stick with one thing for more than a dozen hours.

For some reason, it isn't happening to me with Skyrim. Through just playing the way I felt like playing, my character is....exactly where I like it to be. Mostly stealth focused, lots of bows and dual-wielding swords with crazy high Illusion to always be invisible. 35 hours in and I'm still absolutely loving it.

I made a heavy magic user and have a few hours into that, but mostly just messing around and getting a feel for the different types of spells (conjuration is pretty badass in Skyrim). Haven't sunk much time into it. With around 35 hours logged into my main character, it's hard to justify playing around with another when there's still soooooo much to do. I'm sure I will eventually though.

One, and I'm keeping him. I like him. He's a Breton who has a high Destruction and a high One-Handed skill, and he's dressed in light armor that has been repurposed with some magicka-regenerating abilities as well as a hood that gives him a boost to magicka and some elven leg and arm wear that helps defend me from fire damage and (guess what?) gives another boost to magicka.

Plus I just got the Dawnbreaker, a sword from a Daedric god. Fireball in left hand, Dawnbreaker in right, and I'm a force to be reckoned with even only at Level 16.

Also, is anyone else finding lockpicking skills a bit... irrelevant? I haven't put anything into lockpicking yet, with patience and tons of picks, I haven't come across a lock that can't be picked yet. Save, of course, for the ones that absolutely need keys.

I'm really feeling the need to role a Dark Elf. I loved my Dark Elf in Oblivion. My role as a Nord is all noble and shit and I can't stop being noble with him. I'm a level 19 with my Nord and a have a good idea of the game, maybe it's time to go all stealth and magic.

I wish they'd let you do separate character slot and separate saves for each. I don't understand why that's not more streamlined.

@believer258: I'm dumping points into lock picking for that perk that gives better treasure. I'm not sure how much better the treasure will be...but I want to find out!

If it turns out to be super lame, then I'm just going to do the console command to "respec". Yay PC!

    So probably eventually 3 characters.

So far I have 2 characters right now. My main is a lizard man. Not exactly sure where I'm going with him. Started off as 1-handed weapon and shield but switched to magic + bow for long range stealth/surprise attacks.

The 2nd character is a Khajiit and will try to go unarmed as inspired by LordXavierBritish's post

Right now I have only one character, a warrior. I tried starting the thieves guild questline with him, but it just did not feel right. So later on I will make a thief to do the thieves guild and dark brotherhood, and I am sure I will make a mage eventually as well.

I have two at the moment. On my first character I'm trying to see a little bit of everything. So, I've made an amoral Imperial Battlemage wearing heavy armor and dual wielding spells. I'm going to try and do every quest with this guy. The icing on the cake is he looks like Brian Wilson from the Giants. The only thing I won't be able to do with him is the Stormcloak side of the civil war. That's what my purely melee focused "guy from the promotional material" Nord will be for.

Only one, because the characters almost inevitably end up being a jack of all trades, and the playstyle differences aren't significant enough to warrant it. If I want to play as a thief or as a mage I can. I guess the only thing I can't do is roll in heavy armour with two-handed weapons but I prefer the speed and versatility of light armour anyway.

As far as I was aware there's no level cap - you just stop earning an achievement at Level 50. You can basically keep going until your character is a master of everything, can't you?

@Axxol: The way I understand it, they never designed a hard level cap, but the ramp becomes ridiculously steep after 50, and given that you can only gain experience by leveling skills, and their are a set number of skills that all max out at 100, the highest you can achieve is level 70.

I've got a one-handed weapons / destruction mage going now that is giving me a good mix of those two, and I'll probably take this through the story and most of the sidequests. Planning on going sneaky evil bastard with archery and the other magics after, especially for things like finishing up the Thieves Guild quests.

I'm liking my Dark Elf rogue, so for now I'll be sticking with that. But I'll probably roll a full mage at some point, and maybe a mage/warrior at some point. So, three probably, before I set the game down. At this rate, a year from now.

I'm on my third. Forcing myself to keep playing this one. Been made slightly easier by being introduced to the "showracemenu" console command, which lets you edit your character on-the-fly. Just make sure you don't change the race, as doing so will reset all your stats. You can even change your sex and name without any penalties. Even bounties on your head retroactively use your new name when you open them back up; no errors. Also, make sure you're in third person if you use it, otherwise it's a glitch party.

Playing a stealthy Archer/Thief now, doing as many quests as I can.
Probably going to make a Warrior and a Mage after that, but mostly just do the Companions and College stuff then, I think.

Same one from the start. though I've swapped perks out with the console.

Started as a light armor-wearing dual wielding sneaky type. Was getting my ass handed to me by dragons though, and even normal encounters started going south more and more quickly as damage mitigation didn't seem to be scaling well with the damage I would take when spotted.

Went over to heavy armor, sword, shield, healing, and casting. Got my ass handed to me by casters every now and then and tougher elder dragons but everyone/thing else was cake.

I decided to swap back to light armor and sneaking since I had more skill in those areas and perk points to move around...but man, it still kinda sucks compared to tanking it.

Seriously, at 37 or so, everything short of trash mobs will pretty much destroy you if it comes to straight up combat (as opposed to sneaking/sniping). You either gotta be damned lucky with the crits or take all day trying to stalk and memorize the shitty pathing of enemies praying they don't spot you. Otherwise you're stuck trying to get heals/potions off before you get 3-shotted and trying to make up your armor deficit with spells. basically damage mitigation is still too much of a problem. I'd kill for a block while dual weilding, btw. Though I suppose there's no simple way of doing that. Gonna have to look into the perks a bit more and see what I can move around. Maybe consider focusing on alteration more.

I only have one. A mage Breton.

Hopefuly I will make three characters. One thief, one warrior, and my current mage. But the later once will be in a year or two when the patches and the mods are live and kicking. That's the beauty of this game, I don't have to do it all now. It's nothing like it coming out soon so I'll just savour this one for a long time.

I have three that I've played up to at least partway into the first (?) dungeon type quest, all of them Nords . . . But out of those 3, I've only played one past that part (well 2 actually, and to the exact same part of the main questline, but the second of the two was just a remake of the first). I think for my second "serious" character (In that I'll keep playing him) it will be an Altmer, as a high elf dragonborn sounds interesting to me, haha. I'm tempted to not touch the MQ with any character other than my Nord to keep one playthrough as the canon, although I don't know how avoiding absorbing dragon souls will work out . . .

I was considering doing that, the illusion stat I mean, till I realised that once stealth is above 50 you might as well be invisible anyway, backstabs do 30x damage and eventually you get a daily 2 minute invisibility spell from the Thief's Guild anyway! 30 hours with my Kahjiit and its been awesome.

My second character which I'll either make when I'm done with the Dark Brotherhood or when I've also done the main quest will be an epic BattleMage as described in another thread here, with mad spells and heavy armour.
