As you might know Lord of the Ring Online goes free today. Is anyone going to play it due to it becoming F2P? I made an account and began playing however since I already play World of Warcraft I don't have time to play other MMO's.
The Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar
Game » consists of 3 releases. Released Apr 27, 2007
A free-to-play MMORPG set in the Lord of the Rings universe, at the same time as The Fellowship of the Ring.
Now that it's gone free...
I could not get into that game. The animations and the feel of the battles just felt so... dull. I'm sure I was missing something, though. Maybe I should have tried a ranged/spell class.
eventually maybe. My brother and I try to find free mmos to play together since he lives in california now and I live in colorado
Thanks for reminding me about this, I'm downloading it now. I'll probably play a character for 20 minutes then say "meh" and go back to WoW :P That's what I always do, but that 20 minutes is pretty fun.

I was in the beta for free to play, I am not sure why, but it seemed very "rough", all of the animations were very crude and all of the character models were very basic, and the soundtrack was pretty weak as well. I really tried to give it a chance because I really love LotR, but I just could not do it.

"That's what I did. It's hard to play a game so similar when you have time and money invested in the other. "

I'm playing the game for the first time now. It is nowhere near as polished as WoW. The movement and combat, compared to WoW, feel awful. It's not really a bad mmo, just incredibly average.
Now that the game is free to play, it also looks like the developer has put so many microtransactions in the game, as to make it seem unplayable. The servers are also all really laggy at this point in time - though, thats likely due to the influx of player from F2P so I'll let that slide.
" @President_Barackbar said:Whoa, whoa, whoa, I'm not really sure. I think I remember there being healing/spell casting classes, but I could be wrong. I only played it for a day, and that was at least a year ago. Regardless of its Tolkien-accuracy, the game was just boring to me. Take a game like Anarchy Online... that game has horrendous graphics, a dwindling userbase, and almost no patches/updates, yet it's still great because of how fun and in-depth it is. Games like this (WoW games) are just too boring for me. (<--ME )" @FunExplosions said:ahhhh AHHHHHHHHH someelse who knows.... I...... Ooh downloading now. I had fun during the big GB Runes of Magic thing, but I really wanted to play this more than anything.
i would, but FTP versions of MMOs are almost always crap, just ways to show you a shit ton of reason you should upgrade, like WAR's way of showing you bag spaces you could get if you purchased, and a screen popping up that tells you the awesomeness of subscribing during loading or leveling up, i think MMOs should just stick to trials
I'm downloading the game now. Oh god this is a mistake.
If anyone plays this, you could tell me which server you're on so we could go on mad loot quests together.

I downloaded it once and during the install it said that a sound file was corrupted, now i am downloading it all over again >_>

Still waiting for the EU version to become F2P.
I want to explore the Mines of Moria and I need to at least get there so I don't feel like I wasted 30 euro's last year!
Drums in the deep....!
I am way too into Lord of the Rings right now. Within the past few days I've actually watched The Fellowship of the Ring three times, two of them with separate audio commentary tracks. This is the extended version DVD too, so it's well past 3 hours.

" So I'm choosing a server now there's 15 to choose from, Which one should I go to? the top of the list is one called Gladden. Unless someone replies in the next couple minutes that's what I'm going with. "I'll go with Gladden too.
My brother played in the beta. He also played DDO, but he said LotR wasn't as good because it didn't have the easy party matching in DDO, and wasn't different enough to make up for it with a new experience.
I might try it out, because when I played a free trial ages ago (when it first came out) it was almost just like WoW. I don't expect to like it much, but maybe things have changed since then. DDO sucked back in the day, but isn't too bad now.

Good luck, folks. As a long time (lifetime subscribing) LOTRO player, I envy your first foray into the game. It's not for everyone, but some of you will fall in love. Just remember to let the game work it's magic --it's not as flashy or fast as WoW, but if you love story and lore, you'll feel at home.
And yes, Moria kicks all kinds of ass.
