    Overview

    The Rotten, although made up of numerous undead, appears to have some sentience as an individual. It can swing a massive butcher's knife and chain attacks just as any other humanoid enemy could. It can even cast dark magic. The Rotten may indeed be more than a collection of undead acting as one. Its soul description states: "The Rotten embraces all, in his sanctuary for all things unwanted or tossed away." This may imply the existence of a male undead who discovered a great soul and shared its power with the increasing number of undead cast aside. Interestingly enough, the Rotten drops the Old Dead One Soul upon defeat in NG+, which is the remnant of Nito's Lord Soul. This may explain how a group of outcasted undead could become so powerful.

    The Rotten's Soul can be used to craft its Butcher's Knife or consumed for 25,000 souls. The Old Dead One Soul can be used to craft the Crypt Blacksword or learn the spell Numbness, or consumed for 60,000 souls.
