A Final Fantasy Music Lovers Dream Come True
I'll sum it up simply: If you are a longtime lover of Final Fantasy soundtracks, you are going to love this game. Even if you aren't a huge fan of rhythm games such as Elite Beat Agents, this game packs enough FF nostalgia to hook you fast. To compare to Dissidia, clearly another FF fan service title, this game offers all the same great nostalgia with a better core game mechanic. What really struck me through playing this game is how consistently amazing the FF music has been over the course of 25 years (FF was one of my first games). It is staggering to believe that Uematsu (and occasionally others like Hamauzu) have produced this many songs that stick with me years after I've finished playing the game. The game will end up costing me a pretty penny, but I love the way they have given you a game that is chock full of great songs with the ability to expand. Like Rock Band, you get to pick how deep you want to dive into the game. I also appreciate their willingness to sell separate songs rather than packs so you can get exactly what you want for a low price if you're just dying to buy that one song you love (I'll probably buy them all). Between this and Dissidia, I think Square really has something going and needs to really focus on how to bring together more of these fan service titles. Like Disney is to the film world, they have such a stable of wonderful characters, worlds and music, that it seems like the next logical step for a Company trying to find their way forward when it comes to new game production. This game will be staying in my 3DS for a long time and I'm thankful that Square did this one right.
