    To Be Continued

    Concept »

Instead of telling you it's over and come to a conclusion, some games leave you with a "To be continued" screen.

    Short summary describing this concept.

    Overview

When a game ends, it is often the case that the ending will be tagged with text such as "The End," a simple gesture to note that the story is over. However, for some games with stories that aren't over, particularly games that end on cliffhangers, the text "To be continued" is displayed instead. Borrowed from television and movies, this is a simple notation to indicate that, if the players wish to know how the story will end, then they must wait for the next game in the series, or perhaps an expansion of some sort, whether it be downloadable content or a retail product.
