Transformers Devastation is a game that is full of nostalgia

Yet that nostalgia might have clouded a few thought processes when reviewing this game. I'm not saying this isn't a fun game since it is but compared to Platinum's last licensed effort (The Legend Of Korra) this game isn't much of a improvement over that release. As the game starts Megatron has once again started one of his crazy schemes to take over the world like this was a episode of the Transformers 80's TV show. Of course the Autobots lead by Optimus Prime must take down Megatron's plot and save the world.

To do this the player will need to hack and shoot his way through a legion of generic Decepticons while also taking down a few named ones like Starscream along the way. The action is set up in a standard action game way of having a light and heavy attack along with a dodge. Boss battles and some standard battles can get hectic so careful use of the dodge will be needed to come out on top. Guns are really only used to take down far away enemies or to quickly knock a few extra life points off a boss. Loot is also a small aspect of this game since it is possible to find rare items that are more effective than the old gear. Although the loot doesn't add that much to the game since it really is just 15 or so different types of weapons that only really effect the attack speed/damage.

    Visually this game looks great.

Other than the soild action segments Platinum also managed to recreate the look of the old transformers really well. The cel shading is spot on and it adds a lot of flair to a very pretty game. On the flip side of this it is obvious that this was made on a small timetable. The amount of environments is really low with the main sections being a city, proudstar, and a bridge connected to a island. Every character also plays the same with the main difference being how they look. It is also pretty short although that is like most Platnium games since they count on people willing to replay their game many times.

Overall I just don't see that many improvements over the formula they started with The Legend Of Korra. With the main one being the fact that this game has a lot of boss battles which is nice. It is a fun game that can be enjoyed by anyone who has ever watched or played with Transformers when they were a kid. This game is worth playing although if your the kind of person that only plays through a game once it might be better to wait for a price drop.

Platinum perfect gameplay and Transformer fanservice galore. 0

Admittedly I am extremely biased when it comes to anything and everything Transformers related, being one of those kinds of fans of the franchise to the point where I feel no shame at all about the fact my life is practically defined by my love of everything that encapsulates it.And alongside that I would say I'm pretty crazy about Platinum games too and this game is yet another incredibly polished very fun release of the popular studio's roster of fantastic titles. No-one understands character ...

More time in the garage than on the road. 0

Transformers: Devastation is another product of Platinum Games' collaboration with Activision. If you got this game for free on PlayStation Plus, it's worth a shot. If not, there are much better games from this developer to dive into. The presentation is the strongest part of Transformers. Platinum brought back as many voice actors from the original cartoon as they could, and they deliver their catchphrases and goofy cartoon jargon with aplomb. The cartoony style with bright colours and reflectiv...
