Hacking ain't just for nerds anymore!
A good friend of mine, and fellow gamer introduced me to this game, and since that day I have not played a game this unique.
First of all, the graphics are really simplistic and very much text-based, which are totally fitting given the theme of the game. The music is atmospheric and gives the game a great and cool feel to it.
The gameplay of Uplink is easily the most unique I have ever encountered. The game could be categorized as a simulation, but contains a heavy role-playing element, keeping it interesting. The game's menus are extremely easy to navigate, and make the gameplay hassle-free, leaving you to only think of what needs doing, and how much time you have to do it in, instead of worrying about how to access all the tools you need to get the job done. The game stays fun and suspenseful all the way through, and at only $10.00 on Steam, is of incredible value.
Now, this wouldn't be a review if I didn't talk about shortcomings. Uplink thankfully has very few. The only couple of complaints that I have are that it could have been more realistic by occasionally throwing random obstacles in your direction as you are hacking to force you to change your strategy on the go a little more often and that it would have been great if the game had contained a multi-player mode of some sort. The only problem here is that I have no idea how exactly that would be incorporated, but it still would have been nice to have seen some kind of co-op action, or maybe even head-to-head hacking.
Overall, if you are looking for a great game, this one comes extremely cheap, and delivers as much, if not more fun than a $60.00 retail game. I enjoyed every single moment I played of Uplink, and I hope that you do too.
