Sega Announces Valkyria: Azure Revolution for PlayStation 4
Y'all are a bunch of haters in this thread. I'm waiting to see some actual game footage before I pass judgment, but for a franchise I had given up for dead several years ago, this is fantastic news!
C'mon Sega, give us a remastered VC2/3 on Steam, pretty please? If SquareEnix could do it with the formerly PSP-exclusive FF Type-0, you can too!
I'm so in for the remaster, one of my favorite ps3 games! Didn't expect a new full console Valkyria in a million years, so I can't be too disappointed by whatever Azure Revolution ends up becoming.
"The original Valkyria Chronicles taught me everything I know about tanks."
Austin, I hate to break it to you but...tanks can't go underwater. :P
Ahem.
I may be completely wrong but the 8-4 guys have discussed an X project. It might just be the localization of this. I just hope I'm right

I dunno man you are talking about changing the core mechanical identity of the property, something that a lot of people really loved. VC had some pretty great and unique gameplay, to hear that arguably the best part of the game is not being included in the new one ...well I think some level of disappointment and skepticism is understandable.
But yeah I'm down to see what this is anyway. And I'd love it if VC3 came at least somewhere to the US.
@alvarofaraujo: I think(?) they have gone on record stating Project X is Xenoblade Chronicles X.

Well then i might have missed that. Great

Exactly. I think this is the fastest I've gone from over-the-moon ecstatic to utterly devastated. The one bright spot is that apparently the game director for VC1 will be returning to direct this one.
main page headline: "Sega announces Valkyria Azure Revolution for..."
oh god, please dont be pachinko or something. please...please.....
"...for Playstation 4"
YES!!! WOO HOO!!
"Azure Revolution will be a real-time action RPG"
FUUUUUCK everything.....*sigh* god damn it. they've just been going further and further downhill since the first game.
I'd rather wait until there's more information on the new game before throwing them hyperboles around as if I had already played the finished product.

I'm really interested on how they are going to handle it since they're working on making it a RTARPG this time. My bet is that it's going to be Binary Domain along with the great VC mechanics and design. I think that Sega are aiming for something interesting.
I sucked at the game but kept playing it because the gameplay was so fun either way. It also had some strong story moments later in the game that I wasn't expecting "lighthearted anime war game" to have, so that was nice.
I dunno if I care about the new one, but I'll probably wind up playing the game again on PS4 (I mean, up until the later "boss" missions that are just boring and drawn out).
I'm guessing this is good news to all the people who won't stop recommending Valkyria Chronicles to me.
It's a very Sega move to announce a new Valkyria game and then have it be the opposite of what the fans want. For as much as I like VC 2, in spite of how aggressively and belligerently "anime" its characters and story are, I want another game with big maps like the first one.
@naion: Man play or at least see somethin' informed about it before being super negative. Did it suddenly become impossible for a good action RPG to exist?
it's not impossible, and lots have come out over the years, but how many games with the same systems as valkyria chronicles have come out... ever? like 3?? there's similar turn based strategy games, but none that scratch that same itch as vc, and now we can't even get that from a sequel. it just sucks.
So happy - even if this isn't an srpg, I'm willing to give the new one a try and hope they'll eventually port 3.

Ahem.
Of course it's Russia!
I just played the game on PC for the first time this year.
I thought it was an interesting take on turn-based strategy and I loved the presentation of it, but the actual in-mission gameplay was flawed in some pretty severe ways. It was hard not to compare it to X-Com, and that's a much better playing game.
As a person who can't stand the mix of real-time and turn-based that at least the original used, I'm happy about this news. Maybe they'll lose some fans, but I'm into it.

I mean, there wasCodename S.T.E.A.M, which also took its fair share of inspiration from VC. Anyone remember that game? The one that came out this year to mostly middling and negative reviews? No? Ok.

I must be the only one that felt the combat in the original was junk. I really liked the real time aiming aspect of it but I hated how it combined real time with turn based in a way that caused enemies to constantly shoot at you during your turn. It completely eliminated most of the tactical aspect for me because it didn't let you consider your options when there was any AI around. I found myself playing most of the game using snipers.
Here is what I need from Sega.
1. Release VC 3. I don't care if its released for the PSP, just make sure it will run on a Vita.
2. Make VC 2 run on a Vita. Being a later game in the PSP life cycle, it makes no sense it doesn't work.
Then you may release the 4th game.
Alternative is remake 2 and 3 for a new console too.
