Games made for a younger audience, usually between 3-9.
Being able to travel off one side of the screen and in from the other side.
Achievements are extra challenges added into video games that sometimes carry a point value or unlock bonus material, and are sometimes solely for bragging rights.
Some games feature protagonists that are not humanoid in nature. These are creatures that do not have human characteristics (i.e. stand on 2 legs, have 2 arms, a body and a head).
These spooky entities are the spirits of the dead, returned from beyond their graves for generally sinister purposes. There's generally about even odds whether a particular ghost will be helpful or malevolent towards the living, but some ghosts just want to be left alone entirely.
These are games you don't need a console to play. You plug in a controller to the TV and you're ready to play.
These games are based off of established licenses, such as movies, comics, or TV shows. Examples are the James Bond 007 and Spider-Man franchises.
Trophies are an incentive-based system for the completion of various objective in PS3, Vita, and PS4 titles.
Any game that does not have any written or spoken dialogue in it, regardless if it has characters or not. This includes any text or recorded dialogue that is spoken by a character or narrator, but not text such as "Press Start".
A game perspective that views the action from above, commonly at a fixed position and/or rotation.
The concept of a helpless female character in desperate need of rescuing by the protagonist, in most cases from a villain, or from a form of impending doom.

The minimap is a small, simplified version of a larger map. This plays a vital role in many games, especially Real Time Strategy, where it is important to have an overview of the entire map.
Animal antagonists feature in works where the player character is a human or reasonably humanoid (such as an alien) and the primary villain or an important rival is an animal. They may have some human-like tendencies such as speech or wearing clothes, but ultimately are non-anthropomorphic.
In text based games, most, if not all the game play, or graphics is created with words.
Xbox Live is Microsoft's online gaming service.
Famicom Disk System games that were only available via a disk writing service available in many Japanese game stores. As such, they have no official box art and are harder for collectors to find.

A game that uses a mixture of 2D & 3D techniques. Commonly used to describe the use of either 3D graphics restricted to a 2D perceptive, or 2D graphics used to fake the appearance of a 3D perceptive.
The opposite of open-ended gameplay, linear gameplay uses scripted events, Quick time events, cut scenes, and a restricted path to tell a story exactly how the writer intends, and control elements of the action.
Sometimes, for one reason or another, a game will never actually tell you exactly where you are. Usually, this does not negatively impact the gameplay. Usually.
Games in which vehicles do not have infinite fuel and that may require the player to refill the gas tank in order to continue driving or piloting.
An intermission is a little scene shown between rounds to give the player a break. It may advance the storyline or just be humorous. The intermission can be seen as a grandfather to the cutscene, as they often featured humerous animations that weren't necessarily related to the gameplay at all.
An eight legged arachnid. Some make webs to catch prey and some are poisonous. None have made a web grand enough to be called a parlor, though.
Climbing is a common tradition in games, particularly platformers. There is often a particular type of surface that can be climbed, and it has a recognizably different look than other surfaces in the game. Climbing ladders or stairs doesn't count.
Vertical scrolling is when the screen scrolls along the y-axis. In a vertical scrolling game the player usually starts from the bottom of the screen and moves up. They are also almost always presented in a top-down perspective.
A large species of primates.
These games take the select button literally. Pushing up and down (or any other button) to select an option will do nothing.
