This shit is maddening and everything that has to be frustrating about being in the game press. "COME SEE OUR MAGNIFICENT NEW GAME'S UNVEILING!!", and then you have to sit through a shit ton of concept art and promises. I want to say that I would have just walked out after telling Bungie to "Fuck off.", but then again, I don't have to represent a website. I feel for Jeff on this.

NEVER PRE-ORDER IT. WAIT FOR IT TO BE RELEASED.

A lot of this makes me think of a more ambitious version of Global Agenda.

So Guild Wars meets Borderlands with space wizards and Paul McCartney. Could be worse I suppose, just a shame a certain company nixed the gameplay videos.

I think Bungie is on the right track, mix up the fps'ing that everyone loves with the progression of an mmo gear system and leveling/unlock addiction from CoD. Destiny has a lot of potential.

They plan to work on this for the next 10 years, yet they announce it for PS3 and 360, two consoles soon to be defunct.

From what I've gathered from the IGN stream, it'll kinda seamlessly phase players into the same scenario. Kinda like a mix of Left 4 Dead's AI director and Dark Souls co/op functionality, creating an interesting and challenging social gameplay experience dynamically.

I don't think that'll happen in a set open world. Could be procedurally generated missions. I just wonder what type of maps we'll play in. Call of Duty-style corridor-shootery? Or Battlefield-like open worldish maps?

A true persistent open world with dozens and dozens of players running about willy-nilly? Nah - I don't think that'll go together well with proper and interesting FPS gameplay.

True, true. It'll be like Christmas. "We get TWO Halos now?!" I'd be kinda pumped if I was that big a fan.

It definitely sounds ambitious but I'm going to stay cautiously excited also I don't like the idea of playing a new 360/PS3 game in 2014, this better come out for PC.

I think this might be their biggest problem. The only reason this game is getting any attention or hype is because of Halo, and for anyone that isn't a Halo fan there's was basically nothing exciting revealed. Not that there aren't a good amount of Halo fans that would still be interested, but they're playing too close to home court to attract a new audience.

Ive played this type of game before many a time. I expect Activision to work in microtransactions into the game to earn things quicker like double XP for an hour or skip some level progression

Is the hook "From the Makers of Halo" suppose to make it inherently good?

Clearly not a game built for me, but I bet the Halo crowd will love it.

Don't necessarily count a PC version out. Activision always wants to spread its releases out to as many platforms as possible.

Nothing about this excites me, its not as big of a departure from Halo as I would have liked.

This looks like Mass Effect and Halo got together with Planetside and Dust and had a wild orgy, resulting in two babies (one of Mass Effect and Halo, one of Planetside and Dust), who then grew up together, falling madly in love and having their own child, which is Destiny.

It's hilarious how sites like GameTrailers will have huge countdown features for this a week beforehand, and GiantBomb is so far in the complete fucking opposite direction.

Bungie designed the framework for the most satisfing and fun *Versus AI* FPS gameplay, and delivered a bunch of great games with the Halo games, which pretty much singlehandedly put the Xbox on the map.

Yes, I want to believe they'll pull off Destiny. The question weighing on my mind the most? How open-worldish will it really be... and what's going to be instanced and how.

Wouldn't have been more cost effective just to e-mail those images and the press sheet rather than ship the media out there considering they didn't actually see the game.

@hyperionx3: No PC release is not a surprise. Also, the perspective a game has is related to gameplay. Not whether or not you can customize your guy. That's obviously there for the online differentiation like it usually is.

So activision will be releasing a online focused multiplayer first person shooter designed,built, and maintained for ten years by bungie. So this is just going to be CoD for halo fans? Which is fine if thats what halo mp players want, but to me at least it looks like the next ten years of gaming will look a lot like the last 8 years for gaming.

Oh can anyone say bungie elite, only $50 a year and you get all the dlc maps. which you will have to buy each time a new expansion is launched. And i have no problem with that either, but if it does happen people have to quit bitching about dlc revenue streams in all games because we as a hobby did it to ourselves.

I now can only experience video game previews in a video format.

While I love the wrapper surrounding Halo, I don't like playing it that much. I'm happy to see them trying something a little different just to see how Bungie can make a game feel when shooting something other than Elites.

In the way Jeff describes it, the game's setup sounds to me like Monster Hunter; central town with multiple zones you can then travel to. like which I would not be oppose to.

Preview event seems like a total bummer. I mean, you guys could have learned all this crap from the vidoc they released. Yeah, must have been frustrating for you guys.

Might I suggest not going to any freaking preview events anymore?
