According to This Trailer, Rayman Legends Has a Demo Out Right Now

Was that...was that a "Black Betty" riff at the end there? If so, I officially love this game even harder.

There's an entire level based around "Black Betty." Best part of the demo.

Watching this makes me want a WiiU. Then I remember everything else about the console.

They'll fix the firmware and all the other dumb DRM and account stuff eventually, right? RIGHT?!

There are some 3D models, but most of the game is gorgeous hand drawn art. Also the game runs at native 1080p at 60fps.

Does anyone know if the Toad level was in the earlier demo in stores or is it new to the Wii U shop?

I downloaded this yesterday and played the whole thing; when I got to the "Castle Rock" level -- where the game-play (jumping, attacks, everything) is completely synched-up to a goofy version of "Black Betty" -- my kids (ages 3 & 8) thought it was so hilarious and awesome that I ended up playing it 4 times in a row. By the final play-through I had collected every single Lum, which made it so I was stuck at the end of the level standing on top of that big monster; there was no transition back to the "Gallery," and the only thing left to do was jump off the monster and die ... which totally froze the Wii U.

Rayman: Origins was one of the best games I have played this year, and Legends is a big part of the reason we have a Wii U in the house right now. I'm really excited for this.

In the mean time: we're enjoying Nintendo Land quite a bit.

The demo has three levels, and in the middle of one of them I was forced to switch to the pixie guy (touch screen) and guide an AI controlled Globox through the level. Hard to say how that will play out over the full game, but it's safe to say that at least a few stages will be touchpad required.

After playing the demo, it's damn good, but it sure ain't Origins. The control didn't feel nearly as tight. I'm also a little worried about control options for MP. It's a three button control scheme (run, jump, punch), so playing on a Wiimote is gunna be rough. I'd rather not shell out for a "pro" cotroller, so hopefully it's at least Wii Classic compatible.

I just wish gamers would catch on. Rayman Origins outclasses the new Mario games in every respect. Folks complaining that NSMB has stagnated need to speak with their wallets, and show Nintendo that they've been left behind.

It's fine for single player. There are 3 levels in the demo; there's this one, there's the Toad level. The third (well... technically the first) has you playing it normally, but then you free the trapped little fairy/insect guy, and so you're not playing as Rayman/whoever else anymore, as much as you are laying the ground and moving obstacles for that character to progress like you would in multiplayer. Seemed fine. There's a tricky section they flash in the trailer where you're using the gamepad, trying to spin a wheel to help navigate Rayman or whoever through like those old 'marble in a maze' puzzles. Again, it was fine. Well implemented, but the Castle Rock stage was totally the highlight.

Just in time for xmas. I have a feeling that Nintendo saw this and heaved a sigh of relief that this demo is probably enough on it's own to account for a whole bunch more WiiUs under the tree.

So do you want the game because it looks pretty or because of the gameplay because the "stupid co-op" is integrated into the single player level design, as you can see in the demo.

As someone who bought a WiiU primarily to play this game, I for one would still just prefer a proper sequel to Rayman Origins. I don't want the touchscreen stuff, I'm simply putting up with it to get more Rayman.

Everyone complaining about this being WiiU exclusive, just stfu please. You will get your Rayman Origins 2, it will probably resemble this game quite a bit in terms of assets/art. Just let people who have purchased and are enjoying this platform have some god damn fun. Additionally, keep writing off 'stupid co-op' without even really grasping its full effect or how it's been integrated in to the game smoothly and inoffensively, whether played with 1 or 5 players. Please keep doing that, the games industry is much better for it

It's understandable that some people just want another Origins on their platform of choice. But in the end I'm thankful Nintendo hooked this franchise for the Wii U, ensuring some actual innovation. A direct sequel with just a different art style and some new levels would have probably been a fine game, but this feels like more than an easy sequel, which is definitely a good thing.

It's good, but relative to Origins (play on the 360), it feels like a step down. It's a little hard for me to tell since the demo levels aren't as demanding, but it definitely seems a little sluggish by comparison. That said, it isn't terrible, and it may only be noticeable if you've played A LOT of Origins. It's also just a demo, and they might be spending some of the delay time punching up the framerate and tweaking the responsiveness.

I have indeed played A LOT, and I mean A LOT of Origins. As in I've probably beaten every level in that game at least 20-30 times over.

It's easily my son's favourite game (that's why I've played it so much) but one of the biggest reasons it's his favourite is because it controls so well. Seems like 95% of games out there are either too mature, too complex, or control too poorly for him so I'd kill for another 2D Rayman.

Hopefully I'll find an opportunity to try it out myself but in the end it probably won't matter because even if it controls better than Origins I can't see me dropping 400 bones on it.

Thanks for the scoop :)
