Will be interesting to see how it compares graphically to the last-gen version.

Best part of Black Flag, was the pirate stuff. Rogue gets that part right at least. Unfortunately, the setting in Rogue is so bland that I don't have any urge to play this game. They should've made that samurai-themed game instead, sounded much more promising. Anyway, I'm still mildly interested in giving this a shot someday, so it's nice they brought it to the PC.

I'm One of the few that thinks unity is actually a decent game. Too bad it was marred by technical issues, series fatigue, and a boring protagonist.

Rogue was decent as well, but lacked the personality of AC4. Had An interesting story and protagonist and all the cool stuff from AC4, but felt like it was retreading old ground.

I just want Rouge on PS4. If Ubisoft would just put it on current generation I think it would be worth their while.

Assassin's Creed has been doing that since Brotherhood in fairness, outside of the boat stuff basically nothing has changed one iota.

Accents aside, I thought this game was really good.

But I hope that it's the last AC game with boats, because two games has made it old and three would just kill the good memories.

I'll take a wild guess and say that the PC version looks better than the 360/PS3 version. Crazy, I know.

I'm actually really enjoying Unity, now that I have a graphics card capable of playing it.

Unity is gorgeous and detailed, and I'd like to see a direct sequel to Black flag so I'll play it.

Yeah, that's gotta be him. Strange choice though, since I half-expect him to start the usual mocking narration. With Ubisoft's public relations problems, particularly with the PC audience, that seems like running face first into a closed fist.

as a AC fan who was supremely disappointed in unity, rogue is actually one of the better games in the series, Shay's an actual likable character, and the story is interesting in this one.

@paulunga:

Coming from someone who has thoroughly enjoyed every AC game aside from Revelations which I couldn't play (including 3), my answer is a resounding no.

I picked it up on impulse a few weeks ago, and it turns out everyone on the internet over-exaggerates everything.

The only real technical problem I ran into was a sub-30 framerate most of the time, but if you've played all of these games on console like I have that's nothing new.

Absolutely gorgeous, substantial changes to combat and the free-running, and I think the character-driven story is the best one that these games have had since 2/Brotherhood (aside from a really bad ending unfortunately).

If you like AC games and not just black flag, the game is perfectly fine.

@nasher27: Well, I love 2 and Brotherhood but hated 3. The biggest problem for me was them moving away from the big, sprawling cities. I'll probably get it in a sale since it doesn't seem like the game's the anti-christ.

I loved Rogue and hated Unity, so I recommend this port by default if you didn't play the PS3 / 360 version. :-P It's really just more Black Flag with a grenade launcher weapon, and that... worked for me. I wish there were more story missions; there are only six sequences and the lion's share of the game is spent wandering around side areas collecting stuff and doing side quests. That having been said, the side areas are masterfully built and the main quest doesn't really have any dud missions.

Oh, and no helix point garbage. No god-awful smart phone app. No Assassin's Creed Initiates chests that you can only open if you make an account there. No awkward emphasis on co-op missions in a single player campaign. This game ignores all that tedium, awkwardness, and micro-transaction currency garbage and just focuses on the fun, which is what you might expect a videogame to do.

I really hope Ubisoft takes a long, hard look at the franchise and leans more towards the consumer-friendly side of the fence with their next Assassin's Creed product. Unity and Rogue are night and day on that spectrum, and I'm actually worried for the franchise. I'm not a cow to be milked for nickels and dimes, thank you very much. :-/

What's bad isn't its technical problems.

It sucked (for me) because the ending is inconsequential and the combat has been redesigned to be so simple, it's even shallower than AC1.

I wouldn't mistake it being the best AC game of 2014 as it being a great game. It's just way better than Unity. This game is worse than AC4. The ship battles and ship-based content is nowhere near the quality of AC4, but the ground gameplay is actually much better than AC4, but that's not because of gameplay or mechanic improvements. It's just that the land-based content, missions and level design are much better than in AC4. (And some really cool scripted set-pieces) However, that basically means it's more of the exact same flawed combat and scaling that's rapidly grown increasingly dated after each release and continues here. It just has less awfully boring land missions. The plot simultaneously sets up AC3 and AC: Unity if that interests you. (The last mission being particularly cool if you've played AC:U)

Sorry but there is nothing wrong with Unity as a game experience now that it's fixed. It's a better story with better characters, side-quests and locale. I hate the bandwagon jumping that game critics latch onto. You realise when things change for the better - your opinions are allowed to change to reflect that right? Jesus.

@thepantheon: You do realize that the game was having issues for months? You want critics to be okay with a game that released broken and wait till people deem it 'an okay experience' before they form their opinion on it?

Alex played through the entirety of Unity and wrote a review about it that doesn't only reflect the technical aspects that made the experience bad, but also the gameplay , story and uplay problems that game has.

"An Extremely OK Assassin's Creed Game" - Alex Navarro. Put it on the box and ship it! Surely they know that people are getting tired of the same thing year after year? I bet they do know, but as long as sales are good, they're obligated to continue.

I've played every Assassins' Creed the week it came out, and finished them in a week or so.

Unity I picked up during the Steam sales last Christmas, got about four hours in, and haven't gone back to it since. Getting past any technical issues (which were mostly gone by the time I got to it) it's a joyless slog.

The characters aren't interesting, Arno least of all. The stakes in both the outside and inside Animus stories are confusing and unexciting. The setting is poorly utilized (disappointing to me since the French Revolution is one of my favourite historical periods). The open world jank, microtransactions, uPlay integration are all out of control.

Very little of redeeming value. Looks pretty nice when it's not hitching I guess.
