Blizzard Joins the MOBA Game With Heroes of the Storm

As someone who likes dota, and likes blizzard games, looking forward to trying it!

I liked the animation but the only game I really want to play from blizz now a days is hearthstone. The market is already taken over by Dota 2 and LoL. Also don't you need starcraft to play this? So now you need a 60 dollar game to play this moba... yea good luck have fun.

I can see if Blizzard wants to enter the MOBA scene there's still room for it. They can probably afford to be as up front as Valve with the total free to play with all heroes available package and have only cosmetic micro-transactions. Gameplay wise I see it can be less technically hardcore as DOTA2.

Interesting. Judging by the art style and tone of this promo, especially the logo (I realize this wasn't done in-house, but Blizzard marketing would obviously be all over any messaging for this very important game), I'm going to guess they're taking a hard swerve here and making this into Dota for Kids. It would be pretty hard to take Valve head on at this point with the core Dota player base already so heavily invested, but kids' Dota would be virgin territory. Combine that with the continued success of Skylanders and Disney Infinity, and Blizzard's easy access to such tech through Activision, and I could totally see them trying to set the cash cow bar once again by combining Dota hats with collectible toys.

I just hope all the creeps are banelings so you can't touch them. Also they should be widow mines.

Diablo 3 sold 5 mil first week and over 11mil before the PS3 version was released.

Compare that to say every Mass Effect game that sold a bit over 2 mil on all platforms combined. Or Modern Warfare 2 that sold just over 20 mil (if i recall the headlines) again across all platforms. To put things into perspective.

The hate and indifference you see pop up in regards to those games is just residue backlash. When your sale numbers are that high the amount of bitching will naturally be higher. There is nothing absolutely nothing in the RTS genre these days even remotely close to SC2 in terms of quality and content. And D3 aside from the AH misstep and launch day connectivity issue is likewise still a great game you can easily spend hundreds of hours with.

Well Im still addicted to LoL, but really interested to see what Blizzard can do with the MoBA genre.

ads in front of GB produced videos are completely understandable but ads in front of trailers seem insane to me.

Poor Blizzard, all the epic sounding titles have been taken and they're unwilling to make a less serious game with a less serious title.

Despite the fact I don't care for MOBAs as a genre(I think of them like MMOs. Your first one shows all the cool innovations that they have as a genre, and after that other ones frustrate you for being too similar.n Although the differences do change your overall playstyle in the game drastically.) but I love them making this whole flash trailer. Brings me back.

I'm guessing they get enough hits to justify it, and it's not like it's a big time investment to upload those things.

Diablo 2 sold Diablo 3. The sales numbers for the next Diablo are guaranteed to be lower than D3's.

Could be cool but then there's the part where blizzards idea of balance is making 2 or 3 things way stronger then everything else allowing players of lesser skill to win based on character/class select

Blizzard is not bitter about the whole Dota copyright thing at all.

I hope they use a lot of the old Warcraft characters in this one. I love me some good market confusion.

You liked WoW because it was good at.. well, most everything at that time, for that genre, and especially because it was relatively easy to get into and stick with, at least for a good while, even solo. It wasn't, on the surface, as "hardcore" as other mmos out at that time, mental barrier to entry was much lower.

Same goes for hearthstone, compared to, for example, Magic the Gathering. Also, very few decent current (not browserbased) TCG/CCG videogames out there in general.

You disliked Warcraft for the same reason as Starcraft - which could be broken down to just "well, you are just not into RTSssses", translating into "go away with all that fast-paced meta-management. I just wanna play, not do work".

I believe this (Heroes of the whatever) will very much try to fill the same space as hearthstone, just in relation to LoL and DOTA. Which are both still similarly difficult to get into in a way, and if they can manage it they will apply the WoW/Hearthstone model of not trying to pull the hardcore crowd up front, but eeeeeveryone else by making this get easy to get into.

They could fuck up the execution in the end, sure, but then they will most likely not ever release it.

Oh, I forgot to mention why you dont like D3 but did 1 and 2 - because by now MMOS have been invented and a successful career under their belt and D3 had all the potential fittings of an MMO, without being (as deep as) one, and therefore had no place in your world of video games. D1 and 2 where in a way (the start of) their own genre back then.
