Blizzard Shows Off Diablo III: Reaper of Souls' Many Upgrades

It's telling how hard they fucked up the original game when "ALL WAYPOINTS UNLOCKED" is a trailer bulletpoint that actually makes me excited.

Well, shit. I think they did it, I think they'll make the game good with this expansion. Better than diablo 2 lord of destruction? I don't know, but it looks really, really, promising.

God damnit! Just when I thought I was completely over Diablo 3, they pull me back in. Touché, Blizzard. Touché!

Really wish controller support was in there. Ah well, at least the next gen versions of Diablo can't be far away, right? Maybe they'll do the obligatory GOTY edition with base game + expansion?

Looks very promising. An actual endgame! Diablo 3 sorely needed that.

The music seems very out of place.

But all in all, this game was the biggest gaming disappointment i've had in about five years so i don't think i'll be getting the expansion.

As a huge Diablo fan, I will approach this with cautious enthusiasm. Maybe the expansion and the dismantling of the auction houses can redeem this game.

Don't forget assignable stat points (new paragon).

Just give me a games list over instances and we might be getting somewhere.

Amazed at how Blizz is trying to revive this (to me anyway) a dead horse by hitting it with a much delayed other dead horse. While it's good they're trying, compared to what they did with D2 on the huge expansion, these attempts just feel halfassed.

So they just confirmed that you can transfer your PS3 character to PS4 on a Blizzcon stream.

Slightly hyped for this. I might reroll the new class and try to see if the economy will still be jacked. Looks like they took it in exactly the way I wanted though. So careful optimism!

@fox01313: agreed. i mean, god bless'em for trying - the death of the auction house, also - but the ship has sailed. and all of these new additions (the transmographer, the ass-mographer, the math teacher, the claims adjuster, etc) feels like desperation at this point.

bottom line: this group is just not as talented as the group that worked on D2 and its expansion. and with the release of Path of Exile, this expansion seems even more irrelevant. *shrug*

Well I'm pretty excited for this I have to say. Of course I actually still like the original Diablo 3 unlike the rest of the internet it seems so more of that is fine, and these additions sound really cool. Along with them possibly fixing the loot system I'm totally on board.

Looks fine to me. But then again I'm not in the camp of people shitting on Diablo 3 because it's not Diablo 2.

I didn't include that one because they outlined the Paragon 2.0 system months ago.

Don't get me wrong, the game that Diablo III launched as was one of the worst and most disappointing games I've ever played. The game it is today is a decent-enough sequel to Diablo II, though still ultimately a pretty big letdown. Most of the datamined changes that they look to be making in RoS look really, really great, though; they're doing their damndest to channel what made Diablo II great.

@carg0: Path of Exile is a good game for being Free to Play, but come on. How does it improve on anything Diablo 3 does aside from the absence of an auction house?

These changes and updates – as well as the new loot system – are really exciting! The Diablo III story was only okay so I'm not holding out for the Reaper of Souls story to blow my socks off, but you never know, it could be fun. The new modes and Battle.net stuff will make it much easier to play the content you want with similarly interested people.

I played well over 100 hours of the base game before it's problems became limitations on fun; once I had to rely on the Auction House to proceed I fell off. Alone, the removal of the AH will be a massive change. Thankfully it's disappearing from Diablo III regardless of the expansion.

Awesome, I never really played Diablo 3 so maybe this will be my chance to get it on it. Is there any word as to when it's coming out on PS4?

I agree. I bought the base game on PC, haven't played it much because I can't do mouse clicking like I used to. I'd love to play the game with a controller and it might get me hooked enough to buy DLC.

Pretty excited for this. I guess I was one of the 5 people who actually liked Diablo III despite any of it's issues, and this seems to help deal with a lot of them.

I'm playing Path of Exile right now, but I'm also playing it really casually. The game's combat just can't hold a candle to how Diablo III's combat felt.

Looks pretty great. I used to be all about alternatives to Diablo 3 (Torchlight 2, POE) but came back to D3 lately and realised I've actually spent more time with it than others so...I don't know. Always online is still crappy, but itemization is better these days. Seems like people still hate on it for the sake of hating on it? Reminds me of the whole Mass Effect 3 thing. Ain't nothing gonna stop the internet bein' the internet.

Seems like the in thing nowadays is to reimplement old features into your sequel and brand it as a new feature. Battlefield, Call of Duty, and Diablo 3. I still wonder if they will have a proper chat system in Starcraft 2.

@mr_darcy: Most people who had problems with D3 (which is... most people) had VERY valid reasons for it. To say "they're hating on it for the sake of hating on it" just doesn't apply here at all. Nor does this have a thing to do with comparing it to D2 (as someone else dismissively tried claiming above). Speaking from experience as someone who purchased this game, and literally wasn't able to play single player mode due to server issues, that alone put quite a bad taste in my mouth. And to my dismay, that was only the start of the seemingly endless barrage problems I experienced while trying very, *very* hard to enjoy this game. With the exception of the "new" Simcity, Diablo 3 was the most saddening, disappointing gaming experience I've ever had. I only wish I was exaggerating.

I don't think it has anything to do with forgiveness. Even if a game can clean up its act dramatically a year or two after its release, it really comes down to how much a person is willing to invest themselves in one game -- regardless of its problems. I already had my fill with D3... and at least for me, this is too little too late.

Cant wait for the PS4 version i have heard good things with the console ports. 1080p 60Fps goodness.

@uberdubie: Oops, didn't mean to come across like that. I was referring to certain group of people that just seem to hate on it for no reason. There are plenty of problems with the game, particularly when it first came out (infamous Error 3...I actually have forgotten the number, I think it was 37?), and I'm pretty sure most people are aware of them (except for the majority of critical reviews for some reason). Some people just hate on it without even having played it though because it's such a part of internet culture, which is why I was comparing it to Mass Effect 3. Similar phenomenon.

I like the idea of a adventure mode, but the Diablo combat still isn't engaging to me at all.

Unless Path of Exile rubs me the wrong way, I don't think I'll be going back to D3. The way it handles its skills and upgrade paths is just so much better in my opinion.

It's definitely not as polished, but it's so much more engaging.

I've stopped talking to people about Diablo 3 because people are retarded about it. There is nothing worse than the zeitgeist of hate surrounding Diablo 3.
