@larrydavis: And you know what the regular Bloodborne plays like? Did you play it at an event? Or are you just hating on Souls game or something?

Devil May Cry/Bayonetta have very different play styles from Souls games. It looks like Bloodborne will be more fast-paced and action-oriented than them with the lack of blocking and more emphasis on avoiding and attacking. While I quite like Devil May Cry 1/3 (haven't played DmC yet) and Bayonetta, I would not want that play style to be used in Souls games or Bloodborne.

Yes the joke was that DMC 1 and 3 are better than any Souls game

For the record I really really liked Demon's Souls and I'm excited for Bloodborne despite the last two Souls games.

It's interesting you like Demon's' playstyle but not Dark Souls' playstyle.

It's not the playstyle, it's the world and encounter design. I'm hoping Bloodborne goes back to the discrete areas like Demon's because all the backtracking and super obtuse shit in Dark was fucking awful.

@larrydavis: Ah that explains it. But world design and other similar stuff have nothing to do with how the combat works.

Patrick, I just wanna say, if you're ever gonna get to playing Demon's Souls, Shocktober is the best pre-Bloodborne time there's gonna be. Two worlds in particular are pretty much horror games unto themselves.

@hassun: I know, but my main fear with Bloodborne is that they're going to pull a Resident Evil 5, and try to make a more action-focused game with mechanics that don't really work for that. Specifically, I hope they overhaul the targeting if they're going to focus on larger encounters, because pretty much every "hard" part of DS2 was just because there were multiple enemies.

Though I do appreciate them just ripping off Switch-Axes from Monster Hunter, since those are badass.

Without blocking, this game is just a slower more meticulous Bayonetta. I don't know if it's a better game for it though. I've beaten Dark Soul up to game+ with a melee character that could only dodge or parry, it wasn't a better experience, just different. I don't understand why they removed one option from the player. Maybe it made the game too easy??? 'Cuz I highly doubt it was the case.

That said I won't buy hardwarde (PSOne) to play games when I already have an expensive computer. And I certainly won't pay 400$ to be able to play 5 eclusives, haven't bought the game yet, it's just the stupidest value proposition. They can either release on Steam and make a lot of money with me, or make almost nothing when I buy the console and games used for less than half the price.

I am so impressed with the Souls series. Dark Souls made some major changes to the formula from Demon Souls. The series now has a rabid fan base (myself included) that would be happy to buy some more of the same and gleefully consume it. Most IPs that get a loyal of a following that is still growing would just stay the course like Modern Warfare did for who knows how long. Hidetaka Miyazaki says "nah son" and changes the gameplay at a fundamental level. And that's just what we know has changed. I know there is a chance I may not like this game, but I am even more excited to play this than if it was just more of the same.

there is no pc version of this right? probably going to be a sony exclusive forever?

@super2j: Yep, published by Sony and also co-developed with Sony's Japan Studio. Zero chance of this showing up on a platform that isn't Playstation.

I'm still really unsure about the combat in this game. It's looking too spastic for what I want out of a From Software game.

Did you like Dark Souls II?? It's basically what you're asing for...very little backtracking and WAY less obtuse than DS1.

@larrydavis: Seems like you hated exactly what I loved about Dark Souls. I loved that all the areas were interconnected. Finding a new shortcut always felt so revelatory, like "Holy Shit, this is where I am?" It made the world feel more real and less game-y to me. Oh well, to each his (or her) own I suppose.

Just had my first "Shut up and take my money" moment.

I got so hyped.

@counterclockwork87: I actually did like it much more than 1, yes. Having fast travel from the beginning helped a TON. That said, I still thought there was a lot of really obtuse stuff in it.

As an example, I went down and killed those two bosses under the castle, then didn't know where to go. Turns out I had to use an item I got from a dragon in a place near the beginning, on a tree that otherwise has no purpose, so it teleports me to another area so I can kill THAT boss, then going BACK there will spawn the final boss.

What the fuck is THAT? Even if I had figured out going back to that tree, I would never have guessed that I had to head back down there. I mean, for all the weirdo shit in DS1, most of that was pretty auxiliary, as opposed to being tied to core progression.

This is the only console only game I'm hyped for, not sure if I'm willing to buy a PS4 just for it...yet

that or i'll find another way to play it. The other game is Bayonetta 2, I know I won't be getting a WiiU just for it tho.

It's a shame both those games probably won't ever hit the PC due to their publisher.

I really need to finish up Dark Souls 2 before then. I got all the way up to the gutter and fizzled out. Anyway, this looks super great. Makes me glad I invested in a new console.

DS2 felt a little stale compared to the first Dark Souls. I still powered my way through it though. It had some good environments but I don't think the best of them topped when Dark Souls had to offer. Looking forward to Bloodborne.

I will purchase and play the shizzznnaattt out of that game.
