E3 2013: Fez II Announcement Teaser

Haven't had a good jaw hanging open in surprise moment in a while.

I don't want to know anything about this other than when it's coming out, and I suspect that will be a while (if the first one is anything to go off of).

I'm actually kind of glad for this. I liked the original Fez to get past how much of an ass Phil Fish is.

But I'm not sure that's a fair enough reason to decide if a game should be played or not. It's not like the profits would go into building Fish's secret torture chamber.

Also, I think it's REALLY FUNNY that the diehard indie developer who hates big games announces at E3. What, did the business side of things get a little too important for you, Phil?

Still slowly working my way through Fez on the PC, don't want to look up a guide just yet because its really rewarding to figure things out by myself.

@varrosanon: He didn't announce at E3, he announced at the Horizon Indie Games Conference which took place earlier today.

Weird, I was hoping for some other crazy ass game. Who knows this could just be Fez 2 in name.

Is Phil Fish really that terrible of a human being? He's been a little brash and reactionary in the past, but from what I saw of him on Giant Bomb he seemed pretty chill and self-aware.

I love that this was revealed on the last day of E3 because that type of stuff never happens anymore, hats off to Phil Fish.

Didn't play the first one, but I wonder how you iterate on that. Probably lean into the secret code stuff, but I wonder how you refigure that sort of thing since people will know to expect it now. I got the impression that the "twist" (for lack of a better word) was the big thing about the first game, so it will be cool to see how that evolves for a sequel.

No but seriously, if it will be on any Microsoft system without MS having made the changes to the update and financing policy thingies, Phil Fish was all over about, that would make him a giant sellout and based on that alone I probably wouldn't buy it even in a steam summer sale.

Make it good (take your time, our expectations aren't high in that department;) ), don't sell out, don't take trash-talk from internet idiots like me and bring it to whatever not-MS system you want (though to include Steam day-1 would be nice). All will be well...

Two predictions:

1. Release date: 2018.

2. Platform: XBOne exclusive.

I swear I was thinking about Fez 2 about a week ago, and thought it would be awesome to have even crazier puzzles.

HOW-ever.

You cannot recreate the same experience the players got with the original Fez when people united to figure this weird game out. Everybody was really goddamn surprised at how deep the game was, and how decieving the visuals were. Something like that will never, ever be reproduced.

Still, excited to see what the eff Phil will do with this one.

@smz: I don't recall if the Steam version ever got that patch either, though. Also, given how much Fez sold, I would hope Fish had 10k to patch the game again. In game development terms, $10k is a drop in the bucket. The reason Fish gets so much hate is that he comes off like a whiny brat who doesn't want to give up a tiny slice of his profits for anyone, even the people who bought his game, sunk 10+ hours into it, and got burned by the bug.

I feel like it will just need to be WAY, WAY more obscure this time. Like every room has it's own secret code, so there's not one or two rooms that basically unlock the game. Or if it's on PC, have some imscared style shit where you need to dig into the game directory at certain points to figure out puzzles. Or just go all out and require you to call phone numbers and go to real world locations to solve certain puzzles.

So what I'm saying is this game will be available for Summer of Arcade 2025.
