Anyone else not seeing much difference between this and the next-gen racers?

@rorie: @giganteus: I think it is hard to see the extra detail in the next-gen games via compressed video even at 1080p. Kind of needs to be seen to be believed I guess.

Even so, this trailer looks great considering its on PS3. I love the soundtrack too.

Any game with "adaptive tessellation" is good by me.

All racing games look the same to me. Maybe that's racist, but I just gotta be honest.

Looks nice, but with Forza 5 on the Horizon (get it?) I have no interest in any other racing games.

Of course PD would include the Delta Wing in GT6. I almost want to buy it because of that alone.

@rorie: Usually I'm satisfied with not seeing any difference between one Ridge Racer and the next, as long as there is one. Not actually a good judge of driving sims. I have friends with racing wheels for that. :)

The difference is that GT6 has 3000 more Nissan GTR variations than both Forza 5 and DriveClub combined.

Agreed, and Vinny should buy a wheel. My Logitech GT is really fun.

@andrewf87462: I lost all interest in Forza when they added unrestricted rewind. Kills the game for me as I don't have the self control to not use it.

In Gran Turismo I feel so satisfied when I fight for 5th but in Forza I'll rewind and correct every mistake I make and end up having no fun.

A lot of that is on me not the game but I think you should be able to turn off the rewind function for a money boost in the difficulty settings.

Saying that GT5 has such bad menus compared to Forza every time I need to search for cars to fit certain race requirements in GT5 I die a little bit inside.

I like Forza better... so I hope GT6 is the last.... but even over Forza now I'm looking for The Crew to sate my car love.

If he gets the RIGHT racing wheel, he can still use it for iRacing when the PS3 goes end-of-life.

That's what I noticed. They just need to do a racing game done in FMV video if want to be TRULY REALISTIC

You can... It's not even a miniscule amount either, but rather one of the highest payouts in terms of difficulty options. Rewind on is a 0% bonus and rewind off is a 20% bonus. With everything else set to the highest difficulty, you're looking at 145% vs 165% per race, so in a 25,000 race you're looking at 36,000xp vs 41,250xp.

That said, and I know how stupid this is, but I actually liked the bad UI in GT5 because it required me to think of cars that would be eligible for races, rather than just looking them all up, e.g: "I need a 90s Italian car that has less than 210HP? I know, the Lancia Delta HF Integrale Evoluzione '91 would be perfect!". I realize that's just the result of bad design, but it actually made the singleplayer more fun for me in GT5, since the best car for an event wasn't always so obvious.

Even so, this trailer looks great considering its on PS3. I love the soundtrack too.

I think the polygon count has been good enough since the late PS2 era for the cars themselves to look realistic enough, and this generation did a lot for relatively realistic lightning and shading. All the PS4/Xone car trailers have focused on details such as detailed world reflections and stuff like that, stuff I think you're pretty unlikely to see while racing (though it is noticeable in close ups and screenshots). For this kind of racing games, I kinda think the current consoles can do them good enough, where nothing really takes you out of the experience while driving, only when you stop and start looking closely at the details (as I recall, only the full on open world driving games have had noticeable geometry or texture pop-in, though I've certainly not played a majority of the driving games in recent years).

Kinda weird that they keep showing off the new generations with driving games, I think the last time the difference was really, really noticeable was between the PS1/N64 and PS2/Xbox. The kind of stuff they focused on surely must be more noticeable in slower paced games? I guess that Dark Sorcerer stuff did a bit of it by focusing on the reflections in the dudes eyes, and the way light refracted through his skin and stuff. CD Project could probably talk at lenght about reflections, occlusion, textile textures and refraction in The Witcher 3, and I think that would be something you actually notice during the gameplay in games like that.

This is an option in Forza Motorsport 4, for the record.

EDIT: ...and of course I miss the one post before mine that says this in much better detail. That aside, best way to avoid over-reliance on rewind, in my opinion? Online racing.

I was actually thinking about buying a racing wheel recently. With a bigger TV and an awesome soundbar, it just feels natural to go the extra mile. I play more arcadey racing games though, like MotorStorm and Burnout, so I'm not sure. Need For Speed: Most Wanted is about as serious as I've gotten.

Anybody have any insight for me? Racing wheel for arcade and semi-serious racing games? I bet Driveclub will benefit from it.

@rorie: You'll see it when it's in motion on an actual PS3 and it's riddled with screen tearing and aliasing like 5 was.

@pseg: I don't pay for gold so online isn't an option. I gave up on 3 because of the rewind and I didn't ever see a mention of the option in 4.

There are a few games I'd like to try out the online on 360 so I might try and find a 3 month gold card and get a few games.

@winsord: I had no idea that was added in 4. That's a major addition for me. I always thought 4 seemed like a pointless sequel.

I know what you mean about GT5. There's something about the way they've designed the menus that shows me just how little they care about anything other than the driving.

I just find that in Forza I'd usually upgrade a car I own to the recommended spec for a race and it would seem like a fair race but in GT5 I either already have a car that's way better so I just walk it or I have a rubbish car that just happens to sneak over the requirements.

I really enjoy driving in these games but I don't have enough of an interest in cars to know what to drive.

Please, God, let them do away with the "premium" bullshit, and let all of the cars look good.

Also, this is weirdly just more motivation to get GT5 for like, fifteen bucks.

I would like to know if the AI is better. I'm accustomed to the aggressive / random driving from the CPU in games like Dirt, Grid and Forza. Gran Turismo feels like I'm racing next to a choo-choo train by comparison.

Wow, your cars actually being able to lift from the road is huge. For as realistic as people say GT is it always felt incredibly videogamey to me. Almost like bumper cars thanks to the no damage modeling and the best way of getting around turns being by slamming full speed into other cars.

I really got burned out on GT5 because of its grind-heavy mechanics, so hopefully they're able to rectify that with the sixth entry.

Finally thinking of picking up this game. I picked up GT5, and for whatever reason could not sit down and let it suck me in like all the other previous GT's. I think this might have been due in part to being in a different part of my life than I was something like 10 years earlier when GT4 came out.

Anyway, going to go try GT6. And Vinny, you still need that racing wheel / cockpit setup!
