I couldn't really get into EVE or Dust, but, fuck me, does this game look baller. I hope it is as awesome as it could be. Those guys are fantastic, and it seems like they totally have their hearts in the right place. It's just a shame that they haven't made anything that has clicked with me yet.

Man, I really hope so. We've got Elite, Star Citizen, X Rebirth, Wings of Saint Nazaire, Starlight Inception, possibly Skyjacker and a few others coming up, I really hope they do well, showing there's a market for games like that again, possibly bringing back those big budget FMV titles, since even if I do love space combat in general, nothing really compares to the FMV fueled storytelling in the Wing Commander series.

Yay! Looking forward to new tech that most people actually want and are willing to pay for, as opposed to bullshit marketing people think is cool (in theory) and try really really hard to tell people they should want it and buy it.

God dammit. Reading up on gamescom stuff is like watching my bank account drain in real time.

I think any support for the Oculus Rift will benefit either community of gaming. Not supporting sounds like suicide. What I do see is the space combat genre benefitting no matter which game succeeds, but at this point, either game deserves succeeding. Game On.

I'm not sure why you'd do that, build a successful franchise then develop a game that is very clearly based on it and name it something completely different

I hope Oculus Rift turns out okay. I've been waiting for videogames with some kind of new angle. Gave motion controls a try, but they barely ever work. Novint Falcon sounded cool, but it faded into obscurity almost immediately. Is it time for innovators that actually have their shit together? CCP are a cool bunch, good to hear they're on board.

Yeah, that would be cool. I'm not all that knowledgeable about EVE, but I think Valkyrie are some of the fighter drones that you can use in drone/carrier ships. Being able to control them in first person from another game sounds like it could be really cool (as well as a way an EVE player could get really screwed, if the pilot they've hired is a spy for an enemy corp or just a plain bad pilot or something).

I still just want CCP to do a Pokémon Snap style thing where you're a journalist, flying around in one of those unarmed shuttles, making your way into nullsec and trying to cover the corporate wars, get the best footage and sell it to The Scope (which is the in-game news organization) or on the marketplace.

Just imagine orbiting 200 km from a major battle, trying to get some great footage so you can buy a better zoom lens or something, someone targets you and you have to convince them that you're a journalist, maybe have to pay a bribe to get out of it alive and stuff, or for that matter, getting blown up, but having invested in streaming capable equipment, so you get to see your footage broadcast on the TV as your new clone is activated.

Not much interest in EVE, but curious to see more of this.

@shaggydude: Exactly what I am hoping as well. I am less interested in space bureaucracy than blowing shit up and I love the idea of individual fighters affecting the macrocosm the way Dust suggests it does.

I wish they could call it something other than EVE but the thing itself looks ambitious enough.

I've been done with EVE ever since I lost my battleship to pirates back in '04. Dust wasn't a good enough shooter to get me back in, but this might do it. It would be nuts if they managed to tie this into the EVE server, but I'm guessing what they have now is totally standalone. It would be rad if Titans or carrier class ships in EVE were just populated with Oculus Rift pilots and you just get your missions from whoever is flying the thing.

Hopefully this has nothing to do with EVE Online.

It's a great concept, hopefully it's connected to the main game in a meaningful and interesting way. Because, I'd definitely play this.
