Oh no!

This is the last main FF game that really resonated with me. I loved the weird, obtuse story, and became addicted to Blitzball for a bit.

I think I'm going to buy it, but it not being cross-buy and cross-play is a big turn off. I'd be really psyched about keeping and syncing progress between home and my Vita.

My favorite Final Fantasy, and my least favorite Final Fantasy, bundled together! Hooray!

The game is good. Really good. I think.

I considered picking this up until I found out the cutscenes are still unskippable in FFX. Makes it kind of a huge pain to use that Expert Grid and do a challenge run, which was my intended use of the game. On top of that, they completely remixed the soundtrack and it sounds like a garbage now:

@axersia: I donno. That new arrangement sounds totally fine. It's a nice update considering the original sounds like it was all done by virtual instruments and the updated one sounds more like live instruments (though honestly, it's probably just using modern virtual instruments.)

I can understand the cutscene thing, but can you at least pause the cutscenes?

I'd rather just see David Jaffe shoot more things with a machine gun every Valentine's Day.

You're right, unlike Kingdom Hearts HD and the upcoming KH2 HD, FFX was not recorded using a live orchestra (and I believe FFX-2 received no special treatment at all). Also unlike KH, FFX was redone without supervision of the original composer. As a result I think a lot of the tracks have lost their energy. Instead of taking the soundtrack down a more Black Mages-esque rock-influenced path like Uematsu probably would've done, they just added a whole bunch of crappy synths to it. I mean, the original music is so great that even a bad remix album is gonna be decent, but I would never listen to this album outside of the game.

I dunno, maybe it all comes down to personal taste, but for me there are 2 clear winners here.

As for being able to at least pause cutscenes... No clue.

I don't know what to do. I'm going through Persona 4 Golden right now and was planning on playing Bravely Default afterwards and completely forgot about FFX/X-2 coming out. Hmmmm Bravely Default or FFX/X-2???

Eh, it has romance but the way that whole thing plays out is kinda boring and predictable. Everything else about the game is pretty great though!

God, I remember experiencing that moment. It was so romantic I cried. It truly captured the essences of a feminine man-boy falling for a emotionless woman.

@fonkymucker: I always thought the romance in FFX was terrrrrrrrible, like really awful. I suspect a lot of that had to do with the English VO which was...not very good. The game itself was alright though.

The funniest moment to me is when those dual boss Ronso try to sing the Hymn of Faith before the accompaniment joined. I remember really enjoying my time with FFX. Made it to the top of the Blitzball League with very little trouble.

I liked the part where girls would dress infront of me. Also I just liked having a all female cast. Also FFX-2 was dumb I hope they realized how dumb it was.

That song in the trailer is terrible. Ever since VIII they've been pumping the worst j-pop into their games and its just gotta stop.

I played FF13 for maybe 3 hours and logged it under my "I have a rental account so I will play any new game that gets released even if I know I won't like it" phase but have never played any of the others.

As I am one of the three Kingdom Hearts fans in the world I liked the 1.5 HDR and I hope this HDR is also good but should I even play this as someone who knows nothing about the games?

One of 3 KH fans in the world? I know KH is not at all liked here on GB, but GameFAQs recently did a poll on people's most anticipated upcoming sequels. The top 4 were, in order, SSB, KH3, MGS5, and FF15. I could very well see KH3 doing better than FF15. Even back in the day it had the potential to eclipse FF, but then, y'know, stuff happened.

As for whether FFX is worth it... Honestly, I never much cared for it. It was the first RPG I ever played where you just follow a straight line and aren't allowed to backtrack. That might sound like a familiar approach to you, because yes, FFX was developed by roughly the same team as FF13.

I always thought FFX-2 was a much more fun game. Still the best battle system out of any mainline FF (at least until they release FF15), and it gives you the freedom to go wherever you want whenever you want. It also had a more lighthearted approach to things in a way that isn't commonly seen in FF games.

Anyway, FFX is still perfectly playable (a lot more so than the PS1 installments) and many people love it. Just know that you're gonna be in for a very linear experience.

Learn what your fans actually want. While I'm not in the "FF7 is the greatest EVER" camp..if they're going to spend the time/money/resources on this kind of thing..do a remake of FF7..y'know..what the fans WANT if you're not going to actually work on a new (good) FF game

No it is pretty cheesy but that is how romantic is present in Japanese media. The translation will not change this fact.

@axersia: Those comparisons really bummed me out. The Seymour Fight theme was like my favorite in the game! I almost don't want this now.

Why not? After VI, IX and VIII it's the best Final Fantasy.

I like that the laughing scene is often held up as an example of bad English voice-over when that laugh is the exact same in Japanese. Say what you will about James Arnold Taylor and Hedy Burress's acting in the rest of the game, they nailed that forced laugh.

@cybexx: I just cringe every time I think of that scene. Just one of the most unintentionally funny scenes in video game history.

@toschi2222: FFX is pretty good... or at least, it was when I played it. Not sure how well it holds up. Never played X-2 so I can't comment on that one.

X is one of my favorites in terms of battle system and story, I wish I could have gotten into XII because the story seem very interesting but damn you had to grind a ton in that game, XIII imo was not that bad, the story was good and by the end I liked the quick battles, it just took a long time to ramp up.

I wonder if it'll come to Steam, like VII, VIII, & IX?
