I thought the dive kick controller had a dpad on it when I first heard about it. The real thing is soooooo much better than I imagined.

Anyway, Divekick looks genuinely kind of cool!
I don't think I'd buy that controller, though... that passes the point of being funny dumb and just ends up being dumb.
They should totally add in rock band drum support, though.

Also, "To win your next battle, use the element which brings life" is possibly the greatest joke in a game made of great jokes.

Dave Lang's such a fucking awesome human being. In between running back and forth managing the booth, he still managed to pose for a picture with me and talk about the game. Can't wait to try Divekick now because the booth was fucking PACKED all Saturday, but the hype and excitement practically emanated out of it.

Also, I'm like 99% sure that pie is from KO Pies in South Boston, which Chris Remo actually recommended on the Idle Thumbs podcast! If so, that pie probably is THE MOST DELICIOUS THING DAVE LANG HAS EVER HAD.

I'm disappointed that there are more than two characters.

I'm very on board for Dive Kick, not so much that I would buy one of those controllers, but on board nonetheless.

Yeah me too, which is kind of weird right? But I loved the idea of there only being "Dive" and "Kick", who play exactly the same so it really doesn't matter which one you are.

Just get two tap lights.

Yep, same here. I like that they're taking it seriously, but to me, the whole point is that it's not serious.

I really liked the simplicity of two buttons, two characters and one-hit KOs. Everything's a level playing field and the first one to make contact wins. Adding any deeper strategies beyond "dive" and "kick" really takes something away from the distilled nature of the game for me.

Oh man, I could smash a pie right now. Might have one at the footy on Sunday.

@eccentrix: Yeah, and all the extra moves. I kind of like the option to backstep because it might be frustrating otherwise, but all these special moves where you hit both buttons and the meters and stuff... I don't know. I'm sure it'll still be awesome, but if the whole point of the game is to be so simplistic that anyone can immediately get in, then they should resist the temptation to make it deeper.

This looks like a lot of fun, but like for an afternoon. I can't see how this would have any staying power beyond an afternoon of futzing around.

Anyway, I like the idea of a fighting game in which you do not have to actually learn/memorise certain button-combos. But, if I have to pick between Street Fighter/Marvel vs. Capcom/Soul Calibur/BlazBlu/Tekken/etc. and DiveKick, I wouldn't pick Dive Kick...! I totally agree with @liquidprince - an afternoon with friends and this game sure is fun, but I doubt that it would last much longer than that.

@eccentrix: Oh I'll still definitely be getting it. At its core, it's still doing exactly what I want it to do. Yeah, there's stuff around it, but oh well, right? And honestly, as much as I love the controllers, I want to make sure it's a thing that my friends will even be interested in playing enough to justify the cost of those (unless they're dirt cheap which they won't be but should because it's two goddamn buttons; don't overcomplicate it and drive up the cost) before investing in giant, expensive controllers for it. I think using the shoulder buttons of my PS3 controller or Vita will feel super natural.
