From now on, I will refer to all role playing games under their proper name of math games.

Must say that Vinny is comedic gold. Vinny has a natural kind of a quick wit which doesnt feel forced.

Alongside Dave also Vinny and Jeff are a great pairing. They seem to play off on each other pretty well.

I'm really enjoying these, but I kind of wish they'd play a little looser with the rules. If V-Bomb wants to make choppy choppy with a goblin's hands, well, then that's what should happen.

(I realise it's really fudgey, but couldn't they have just had Vinny roll to see if he pulled off the hand-chop, then seamlessly transitioned out of combat? I've always thought of one of the fundamental advantages of a tabletop RPG as the fact that virtually any form of 'gameplay' is possible: if you think of something, you can come up with a way to at least try to make it happen - like, say, the V-Bomb arm drop - whereas in a computer-based RPG, there are some things you can do, some things you can't, and the only way to change that is to mod the game. Tabletops have the potential to be a lot more freeform.

You guys should summon Mr. Sark from LA up to San Francisco to do your DMing. I heard on the Nerd Poker podcast he wants to play some Pathfinder... and he's creative as shit with his DMing! No offense to Rorie of course, he's doing a great job. (also obviously Sark could never make it up there to DM, but it is my dream)

@cooljammer00: It's possible they no longer congregate there, but I was getting a late night post-movie snack with a friend at the Whole Foods in Tribeca. When we went to the upper level dining area, we were blown away by the wave after wave of board game and pen and paper shenanigans going on up there (and based on their food, they'd be there for a while). If you ever find yourself around there on the weekends, peek up there. I'm not sure if it's a weekly or monthly gathering.

no unprofessional friday tomorrow? it's gone from "coming up...".

If I recall, later things get bumped off from view in the queue if there are more than five upcoming events. It doesn't happen super often, but Friday looks to be a pretty busy day for content, so I'm sure once you see some other stuff go live that it'll pop back up. Barring a staff tweeting an actual cancellation, I wouldn't count on it being down and out. :)

Just so you know snare I'm not singling you out personally, your particular quote seems to represent the thoughts of a bunch of people who are demanding more, MORE, MOAR! While I echo the sentiment of really enjoying this series and looking forward to it greatly, it is important that they don't get burned out by playing too frequently. D&D sessions are extremely fun but they are also mentally & physically draining as well. As such, D&D sessions benefit from time away to not only for preparations on the side of the DM but to give time to reflect on past adventures for everyone involved. I'm sure the dudes here at GB appreciate your enthusiasm, but is it is unfair and unrealistic to expect them to maintain such a rigorous schedule focused solely on D&D. They have other content as well as their own lives to attend to!!

Great show duders!

I'm surprised this session was only 1:47. They got a lot of shit done this time. Well, they didn't have to spend most of the time creating characters.

There's 2 ways to play D&D/Pathfinder. One is in-depth RP and scheming to waste any challenge in your path. The other is batshit insanity & leaving NPCs agape.

It's at its most entertaining when the two collide, usually with ample quantities of beer.

@arbitrarywater Sooo... is there a good guide for setting it up then, or is this mod really obvious to find? I used to play Warhammer FRP with a group back at uni, but don't really have a good place or timeslot for it at the moment. Would be interested in checking ToEE out. Perhaps I'll see if the GB forum is active...

@stimpack: didn't realize jeff wasn't a fan of it, did I miss something? I loved episode 1 and can't wait to watch this. It makes me want to grab my friends and some alcohol and start a table top group and I've never played a table top RPG.

Yeah, especially for a DM, we totally burned out our DM after three sessions when we started playing because we really thought it was awesome and wanted to play for hours and hours. Some of the best times gaming I have had this year though! I am even cool with this show being twice a month if it helps them maintain interest!

This is my first introduction into D&D after years of trying to get around to playing it, the plans or groups always fell through and I never got a chance, so I'm loving it. Just out of interest, has anyone made any artwork of the group yet? I'm a terrible artist but I can picture Matt Rorie's face floating above the others all in character, VBomb thrusting a statue arm into the air victoriously, rogue elf Detroit skulking in the shadows, Drewcifer trying to run away (coward :P) with John Swordmagic (I think) holding him back and Dave's character (who's name also slipped my mind) standing there with a ghost parrot on his shoulder. Times like this I wish I could draw/art/design.

I think the best lines were Drew rolling his great diplomacy check then talking shit to Fatmouth.

Also Vinny wanting to brutally torture the king, then say he can't lie about the gem because he's lawful good.

It's a mod that's still actively being supported and improved (just look up "Circle of Eight mod") and a version of it even adds new content (which I think people shouldn't play with their first time through). The game itself is $6 on GOG.

I'm amazed how entertaining this feature has become. Vinny and Dave are so funny it hurts. Rorie's a better DM than I'll ever be though booze may be the secret to a more fast and loose play style. I like the spell choices from Drew and Ian but they continue to take a low profile when it comes to their characters. I think Brad is the weak link if I'm being honest. Here I thought he was indecisive during Game of the Year then I watched this... I love ya Brad but stick to your guns so you can live up to the name Detroit. I'll bet Jeff would be the Diplomacy specialist here seeing as he is the man with the silver tongue, or maybe that's a Bond villain I just made up. I can totally picture him trying to Fallout 3 his way through every combat scenario.

I suddenly have the urge to play some DnD but I haven't rolled since 3rd edition. If this video proves anything it's that playing with close friends is the way to go though I'm sure pick up groups can be fun as well. I don't know how Pathfinder handles skills but the rule set I'm use to has it as (class modifier + INT modifier) x 4 at level one, if human add + 4 to total. Max ranks in trained skills equals level + 3, cross trained skills max ranks are half of that but require 2 points per rank. I couldn't tell if the bomb crew followed that during creation or not. Thank you guys so much for the content and keep up the great work.

VBOMB THE GOOD CLIMBER! Montana Jones the Uber! Drewcifer the High Roller! Those other guys who know what's going on but can't seem to get anything going.

@somekindarobot: You didn't miss anything in particular, he's just stated multiple times on various videos that he isn't a fan of tabletop gaming. It's a shame, because he would really have a lot to offer in terms of entertainment value. You never know, though, with the rest of the guys getting into it maybe he'll pop in some time.

Well looking it up, it appears that Whole Foods is open from 7am-11pm, and I doubt those guys regularly meet up at Whole Foods to play D and D. I bet it was a special occasion, though that's still pretty cool. Maybe I'll join a Meetup group or something.

I just wanna say that I find this suggestion brilliant. If you guys don't do it, someone, somewhere totally has to.

Also, these videos feel so short! I'm loving it way too much! If this keeps going past November, there's absolutely no way I'll be able to resist instantly renewing my subscription when it runs out. Not saying I have no other reason to do so, but this feature really seals the deal.

Really enjoy this feature. I think the guys play it the right way- the rules don't matter as long as you're having fun. Most importantly for any D&D type game- you play it however you want to play it.

@rorie If I had one suggestion it'd be for the camera to be zoomed out a bit so that we could better see the results of the rolls- it's always super hype when someone lands a 20 or a 1 in these games. Looking forward to the next installment!
