What the dude who I assume is representing gluttony is doing at the 30 second mark is what I think of this game and is what the developers are doing to the fiction that they took about 5% of to make this game on. The main character is completely different along with his motive, he comes across the Roman poet vergil and journeys through hell eventually meeting Lucifer himself at the cold dark centre but the rest is how shamelessly can Visceral Games ripoff God of War and say "look at us were being edgy and cool by depicting hell and shit brah!"

Even if the baby jesus wasnt born then its still a commemoration of Jesus' birth. It is a christian holiday and nothing you say will change that. "
LOL, so even if the purpose the holiday is none to be historically incorrect, which it is, it's still a Christian holiday.  WOW, face it's a pagan holiday with Christian window dressing.  You can pretend all you want but the fact is most of the traditions (the tree, stocking stuffing, present exchange, etc) pre-date Christianity.  If anything Christmas has become more like it's pagan roots in the last 100 years.  You can spend an entire Christmas season without ever seeing a baby Jesus, the manger, etc all season. But you can't throw stick without hitting Santa, a Christmas tree, wreaths, etc. The holiday is so soaked in pagan symbolism and rituals that facade of Christianity is almost been erased from the holiday.  So yes, I think you can enjoy the holiday and not subscribe to your fairy tales. "
Uh... no.  None of the things you mentioned (except arguably gift-giving) pre-date Christianity. Let me make this absolutely clear:Christmas trees: 16th century Christmas stockings: 16th or 17th century Gift-giving: Late middle ages, not common in the western world until the 18th century Christianity: 1st century  With that out of the way, let's talk "pagan symbolism." Christmas trees commemorate St Boniface, a catholic saint (and saints are pretty fucking Christian). Stockings and Santa Claus are part of the myth about St Nicholas, another saint. The wreath is a common Christian symbol since Jesus wore one (the crown of thorns) on the cross. Really, the only Yule ritual that has been preserved since the pagan days is that of getting helplessly drunk.  I appreciate your attempt to see beyond the crap society feeds you, but please don't act like you're well-informed when you don't have a clue. Maybe you should stop subscribing to your own fairy tales. "

No, in a very limited way you are right but only if stop at the point a tradition has been co-opted or in modern terms at the Church's press release.

The exact practice of cutting down a Christmas tree, bringing into your home and decorating it goes back as far as the 1500 in parts of Europe. The practice of cutting down an evergreen tree, bringing into your home and decorating it during this festival was in practice before Christ in the Middle East.  In fact early Christian's decried the practice.  European pagans decoration of the living evergreen trees during these festivals predates Christianity. In fact there are records of early Christian decrying the practice as pagan.

St Nicholas is an adaption of pagan Gods. Even his name is taken from the temples of Poseidon who often had the title of the The Sailor or "Nikar". In fact many of the shrines for St. Nicholas were converted temples of Poseidon. In the modern adaption of Santa Claus you clearly see the echos of Odin down to the slay with the magical flying rain deer in place of Sleipnir his 8 legged horse.

Look, this is nothing new, Christianity is a very adaptive religion. Wherever it spreads it commonly co-opts the local traditions and renames the name, deities become saints, etc.  But to pretend it is not going on is silly.  Let's be honest, the popularity of Christmas has nothing to do with a baby manger or any of the other Christian additions.

Besides, if there was a God he would have stuck the developers of this game down with a bolt of lightning a long time ago.;)

Christmas is a Christian holiday. The date was moved to coincide with older pagan rituals such as Yule and the Solstice. But it's undeniably a Christian holiday, even if it has been modified to appeal to a much wider, more modern audience.   "
Sounds like we agree more than we disagree.  My main point being that the pagan elements of Christmas overshadow and have become dominate over the Christian one's.  I think in practical practice it is no longer a Christian holiday. It is what you do not what you say that matters is as true for a person as it is for a culture.  The fact is you will find a Christmas tree in nearly every home that practices the holiday but very few will have a nativity scene.  Nearly everyone that celebrates the holiday will gift give or have a drink but very few will actually go to Church or sing religious songs. More children make wishes to Santa Claus then pray at Christmas time. At this point the holiday in actual practice is about as a Christian as a Thailand hooker shooting ping pong balls from her twat.

@Luthorcrow: Hey, no one's denying the fact that Christianity itself, like all modern religions, developed from paganism. Of course all Christian symbols can be traced back to pagan ones. That, however, does not make them less Christian. Christmas is as Christian as a holiday could possibly get, and that means that it will inevitably involve elements that were considered pagan when pagan religions existed (to any meaningful extent).  In the same way, the Hellenic and Old Norse religions you speak about can be traced back to sun- and nature worship. Nothing comes from nothing. No matter how you twist and turn it, Christmas is still decidedly Christian on the symbol front. But it would take an idiot not to realize that the religion responsible for our fanaticism about it all is Capitalism.

And if there was a God, I personally think there are a lot of game developers who deserve a good smiting more than these guys. *cough* Aspyr *clears throat*

This game would NOT be a problem had the main character been someone else, Mr. Generic Warrior for example.

I can't even begin to believe that THIS video is something that can change your mind about this game. It's very obvious that this game has one of the largest advertising budgets we've seen in a long time. Honestly, look at all the videos that have been put out about it already. That being said, what turns me off to this game isn't the tacky ada, or the rampant nudity, or even the shameless violence shock factor, but more so, it's the fact that this is so obviously a clone...the only difference being the switch of the R1 and circle buttons. It's like they took god of war and changed the models. I can't even really bring myself to call this an IP. I just wish they used the Dante's Inferno story differently instead of re-skinning an existing title. It's a terrible shame that this game is nothing more than an existing game, stretched over an existing book (both of which were very good) so tight that the whole package comes up rather thin.
