Here's a Look at What's Happening in Mortal Kombat X's Story

the subzero in this game is most likely "Noob Saibot" from the last game, who's name is "Bi Han", as when Nightwolf knocked Noob into the Soul Tornado, it purified his soul.

the Cyber Subzero, was basically Bi Han's Brother, "Kuai Lang", it remains to be seen if he's coming back. but i doubt it.

True, there's that, but in my mind, being generic is the same as being forgettable. I can tell a Bruce Lee clone apart from a blue ninjaman and a yellow ninjaman, but the new guys are wearing kind of non-descript costumes and don't have a simple identifier like red robot, metal-arm guy or idiot with his own name tattooed on his chest. I have faith after MK9 and Injustice that the new people will be full of character, it's just that the set introduced in this trailer are kind of hard to tell apart before you know them.

@dberg: Yeah, I can definitely see why people are apprehensive (Dairou... Taven... Mavado... woof).

On the other hand... Ninja cowboy! :P

Tangent: One thing I hope they do is a bigger, more varied Krypt. I miss the silly videos and such. Also, maybe disable the Kombat Krypt Koin Kounter after you've unlocked everything. I have SO MANY KOINS in MK9!

It's the overly angry part I don't get. I'm more into archetypes than characters. Maybe that's because I play a variety of fighting games. I have to find my play-style archetype in whichever game I'm playing at the moment.

Really hope Bearded Scorpion and Sub-Zero are alternate costumes becuase they look rad! Loved MK9 when it came out and would love to give this game a try.

@mocbucket62: There's a chance that those are their "default" costumes. I remember in one of the Kombat Kasts the guys mentioned that some of the characters they are showing were purposely in their alts to avoid story stuff or something like that.

Oh and in there's that little part after Mileena says "steal my means of reclaiming it" around the 1 minute mark where they flash little shots of different costumes for Reptile, Ermac, Kitana and D'Vorah. The Kitana one looks pretty crazy.

There have been multiple Sub-Zeros. We're not entirely sure which one (or if it's a new one) that this unmasked one is.

Uhhhh why do parts of the out of combat game look like a fucking 360 game? That's so weird. I've always been stunned by how sharp this game looks in fights, but some of that trailer was just ugly. I wonder if they're still working on polishing up some of these cutscenes. Yeesh.

I thought it looked fine, but yes the gameplay looks better.

In other news, I'm sad to see (what looks like) Reptile's official death in a cutscene. And yes that's Reptile, since he's the last of his race (wait, at least I think that's right). This game and its story look fantastic. I like the gang of young people; reminds me of Fast and Furious or something.

problem for me is that it's basically Spike Spiegel's voice forever and ever. But yeah, it's a cool voice imo but guy's lacking in range.

I was wondering how the story was going to continue given that practically everyone died in the last game, so I guess creating a shitload of original characters was definitely the way to go. I'm not really digging the story from what the trailer shows, but since I wasn't going to buy the game anyway, it's not that big of a deal. I'm one of those scumbags who's only interested in watching this on Youtube and Twitch.

I love that Mortal Kombat has gone the Fast and Furious route of taking its own lore seriously in a goofy, fun way.

All of the evidence points to this being Kuai Liang, not Bi Han. The scar, the MK3 attire, the leadership over the Lin Kuei, and the fact that it's stated in the comic that some of the fallen warriors from MK9 have been given a second chance at life after the Nether Realm war, namely Kung Lao, Kitana, Jax, and Sub-Zero.

Steven Blum as Sub Zero lmao, okay. I can never be pumped for this game every single trailer they put out...ends with the Goro preorder shit and I just hate it more.

@snakeeyes327: Its definitely Bi Han. In the comic he shows up to shake someone down and the person is afraid he's come on behalf of Quan Chi, and Sub-Zero tells him Quan Chi is in the past. Then a little later on he gets a dagger to the face which causes the scar. Remember that this is an alternate timeline so anything that happened in MK1-7 doesn't necessarily happen here, especially post MK3.

The thing that has me doubting its Kuai Lang also, is that Kuai Lang turned into Cyber Subzero , and died as Cyber Subzero at the end of MK9, nowhere in the last 10 Mortal Kombat games has there been a Lin Kuei Robot turned back into a full human as far as i believe, as with their logic, once you go robot, you cant go back (is there grounds to introduce a reversal procedure now? absolutely, but as of right now though.). whereas in MK logic, there is grounds to be "purified", as in Deadly Alliance Scorpion got thrown into a Soulnado and became a good guy that served the elder gods... but we'ill ultimately see who he actually is when the game is out.

Also, i have a feeling that scar is actually important this time, considering he got it from a Kamidogu artifact, as Kamiodogu stuff in the last timeline related to The Dragon King (the boss from Deception)

@mrfluke: Well in the comic it's also stated that after the Nether Realm War, some are brought back from the dead to "make things right". For example, Jax is brought back from the dead and in the comic he has his original arms back, not the cybernetic prosthetics that he got in MK9 after Ermac blew his arms off.

Also in a lot of Sub-Zero's intro fight quotes, he comes off as a lot more level headed and understanding, something that's more akin to Kuai Liang, not Bi Han because it's been established that Bi Han was dick and was killed by Scorpion before he could change his ways.

Now there certainly is room in this new time line for role reversal and this might be Bi Han. But all of the evidence still points to it being Kuai Liang. Almost as if NRS is saying "Yes we fucked with Sub-Zero in MK9, we're sorry, here's our apology."

I don't get the anger about the new characters. I've been a fan of MK since I was a kid playing MK2, and I'm hype as hell for all these new people. Change can be good, people. I'm super excited for this game.

Edit: I just realized this is Street Fighter 3 all over again. This is exactly what happened with that game.

SF3 was an attempt to wipe out the whole roster outside of Ken and Ryu. A lot of the hardcore MK fans have actually been frustrated with how "safe" the roster feels outside of the newcomers. The monthly reveals up to this point have been a lot of retread staple characters and smart money is on the remaining spots being filled with some combination of Kenshi, Jax, Johnny and Sonya aka the most stale characters in the series.

My only gripe about the new characters is that the first few (Kotal, Ferra/Torr, D'Vorah) are WAY more interesting than all of these descendants, and that having them in the same game as the people they're descending from is redundant as hell.

@development: Pretty sure that was a fatality. They were showing a lot of actual kombat clips and it looked like there was a brutality and an x-ray right before that so it kind of makes sense.

are those cutscenes from the 360? they look really flat.. they should just save up their"Koins" from the last game and hire Blurr to do the cutscenes... these are really starting to look dated

Everything they've revealed of this game so far makes me smile like an idiot.

The complaints here are kind of lame no offense lol.

But people shouldn't be complaining about Cassie's glasses(she's a Cage, deal with it) or new characters, they're awesome I think especially Erron Black is already a fan favorite even though he is a mix between ninja and cowboy lol or ninja cowboy. There's nothing generic about them. Ferra/Torr, Black, D'vorah, KK, Kung Jin, Takeda and Jacqueline and Cassie are all awesome in their own way.

Kenshi isn't stale he's arguably one of the more popular and well received 3D era characters easily.

And did someone complain goro ruined the trailer? what? No he didnt lol there was a massive pause before Goro comes out...they've been putting him at the end of every trailer for months now.

@snakeeyes327 Actually, Jax still has his metal arms...even after being brought back. However, I agree 100% with you regarding Kuai Liang being the Sub seen here.
