Here's That Crazy Ass Metal Gear Solid V Trailer Everyone's Talking About

Okay, this is actually crazy. I didn't play past MGS1, but I like following this nonsense from the sidelines. It's so dense with delicious ridiculousness at this point that I almost want to go back and play through all the ones I missed. Never going to though.

But it turns out it wasn't actually a possession. You see, Revolver Ocelot was working for the Patriots all along to infiltrate Liquid Snake's gang. When Liquid died by Solid's hands, Ocelot grafts his arm on to replace his own lost arm from a C4 explosion. He then willingly brainwashes himself so that he thinks he's Liquid, becoming Liquid Ocelot. That way he can command Liquid's army, while being a Patriot agent, but oh no, his brainwashing and nanomachines are so powerful that he forgets he's a Patriot Agent and he runs off on a mad Liquid scheme. Also, the Patriots pretended to be the souls of dead politicians living in the White House's walls, when they're actually just the computer AIs left behind by the original Patriots who were the guys supporting you on the radio in Metal Gear Solid 3. Oh, and the Patriots helped the third Big Boss clone, Solidus Snake, become the President of the United States, but then later he gets in trouble in one of Liquid Ocelot's schemes and Solid Snake kills Solidus. But he doesn't actually kill Solidus, because they uses all of Solidus parts to graft on to the comatose body of Big Boss, ruined by Solid Snake ages ago, to resurrect him. Solidus Snake's mutilated body dies a terrible death in MGS4, and the ressurected Big Boss gets killed by the FoxDie that's still in Solid Snake's system when they go and hang out on a graveyard where the Boss, Big Boss' mentor, is buried.

See? It all makes perfect sense. :kojima:

The graveyard scene did give us the series most powerful moment though; Solid Snake and Big Boss sharing a cigar together.

@wiqidbritt: You ever play MGS3, duder? The Fury turned into burning skull demons when he died. The ghost of the Sorrow forced you to confront every person you'd killed in the game in order to reclaim your own lost life. Hell, Colonel Volgin could shoot lightning out of his bare hands.

Straight-up magic has been in Metal Gear all along, my friend, it's just a bit more obvious than usual.

Great fucking trailer, but I'm still a little bummed that they didn't even bother to tell Hayter that he was out.

It's closer but the order still isn't right. "How did you come?" would be "Wie bist du (her)gekommen?". Like I said, I don't think it's related to anything German.

It says a lot about "bad evil russian overlords are pestering poor old americans again" and how everyone is tired of generic shooter #21 but are psyched about a new MGS. MGS is the superior game and too bad it stole BF4's shine, deal with it.

@simkas: I didn't have a chance to watch the full thing while I was writing that comment. It seems clear now that one of the two titles will be a prologue to the full game but I don't know if other people are saying that because of speculation or fact.

I'm going off of almost 15 year old memories here, but the story implied by this trailer makes a lot of sense to me. It all fits in with the "Les Enfants Terribles" project as explained by liquid in MGS1 after you beat Metal Gear Rex. The two phantoms they are referring to are Solid and Liquid Snake. Ground Zeroes just tells the story of the Combat Mission that put Big Boss in a Coma. Obviously, this "dream coma" gives Hideo Kojima an excuse to do a lot of buck wild shit with the story of MGS5. It's possible that you play as Big Boss, Solid Snake, and Liquid Snake through out this game. Also, the burned man is probably Big Boss (after Solid Snake torched him) trying to restart Outer Heaven. You probably play as Liquid in that section. Basically, I'm saying this game sets up Outer Heaven as well as MGS1.

Now THIS is what I call next-gen! Holy shit! I remember thinking the same thing with MGS4 when I first got it. daaammm

The only beautiful part of the BF4 trailer was the underwater car sequence in the beginning. Other than that, it only looked like a marginally prettier BF3. That and you don't get excited over a multiplayer game from a single player trailer. People only got hyped for BF3's debut single player demo because it was debuting new tech and it had been ages since BF2. Another point, BF3's campaign was terribly boring, not in comparison to MGS, but in comparison to other FPS games.

If you want people to lather praise on a BF4 trailer like they do on an MGS trailer, market toward your fans. And the fans want to see multiplayer, not single player.

But the song says "V/we are not the kind of people...", coincidence?
Does this mean that the song is telling us that it's not big boss but Liquid?

Joakim Mogren was really David Hayter all along. The Hayter on Twitter is a clone, part of the DHS (David Hayter Simulation), and currently running around LA nude, cupping his genitals. He also won't be voicing anyone in this game because despite the trailers, you really play as Master Miller by standing in front of your Kinect/PSeye while wearing sunglasses and trying not to sound like Liquid Snake.

It'll make sense, trust me.

After watching all the trailers from each of the Metal Gear's...what could Hollywood bring to add to this franchise. They wouldn't be able to match the mind of Hideo's ideas!

I'm incredibly excited for this - longtime MGS fan since the first one on the PSX. It's a shame Hayter isn't in it but it's not a dealbreaker.

It probably should have been obvious quite some time ago, but I think Kojima has gone around the bend.

I find the whole Metal Gear lore totally baffling. It's incredibly difficult to follow. I played MGS 4 all the way through and probably forgot all the story beats by the time the credits started to roll...

Hey - I might actually like this one, after the steady decline that was the MGS franchise for me. Loved MGS 1 on PSX. Right game at the right time. Downhill from there.

Looks like this one might hit the sweetspot again.

It would be cool if this turns into Metal Gear Solid: The Divine Comedy. Snake has his one last mission in Ground Zeroes, dies in the process, and The Phantom Pain is Snake battling out of hell with the spirits of Volgin and other character Snake and Big Boss has killed before trying to drag him down. Also with flying unicorns and space whales and shit.

Two time lines. I hate to say it, phantom pain is liquid snake. You are playing liquid snake. 9 years fits the timeline from mgs1 to mgs4. Beginning of the game probably ground zeros is some foreshadowing. Sort of like mgs4 we have an homage to the boss's from previous games. The guy in the elevator looked like a mix between The Fury and The Pain. You can hear buzzing like bees from The Pain and the flames and the flaming head kinda thing like the Fury. the guy that looks like snake (big boss) sounds like Master Miller who provided the same voice for Liquid. Now he could have lost his accent from being out for to long IDK. "The bad news is the world wants you dead" is what the bandaged man says to this snake imposture. Look at the hair tones too, Snake never had that light of hair before. Bit of scruff would grow over time if no one was there to shave you. MGS5 is Lquid Snake
