Looks alright, even if the presentation seems a little over done.

I'm no expert, but did any of that look like something that wouldn't be possible to accomplish on XBOX One or PS4? I enjoyed the last XCOM as a couch & controller game, and I was pretty bummed to hear them say they were only developing for PC.

Looks cool, but I reeeeally doubt regular missions will be this elaborate in the presentation.

It weirds me out that on the bronze statue of the alien pulling the human up by the hand, the human is wearing a t-shirt.

The smaller statues during actual gameplay aren't wearing shirts.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown is one of many games I gotta finish before I get to the sequel; also Witcher 2, Fallout 3, Xenoblade Chronicles, GTA IV, MGS Peace Walker(I was out of video games for several years and it's taking me years to try to get caught up).

Your backlog looks a lot like mine. I've played Enemy Unknown, but would like the do so again with the Enemy Within DLC.

Controllers work on PC.

PS4 Controller

Xbone controller - will have native support in Win10 and a dongle launches soon

Steam Link - Also coming in November

If you don't want to wait for a Steam Link

I know, I know... I guess I'm just winging about something that I could easily fix on my own, but my CPU is 6 years-old now and I worry that the reason they're making this only for the PC is that they intend to take advantage of modern CPU's for enemy AI and such.

Dang this looks fantastic! I was trying to figure out if some of the characters were enemies from the last game. Was the speaker at 1:14 a thin man with the spots on his neck? And was that monster near the end of the trailer a new look Muton Berserker?

This is the same stuff IGN showed off a bit back. You should check out that if you want some commentary to go with the video if you haven't seen it yet

Excited to play this this year

Controllers work on PC. ...

The developers have said the game won't launch with gamepad support, but that they're hoping to add it in later.

I'm a bit bummed personally, I played XCOM on PC but entirely with a 360 pad. This video does nothing to make me feel like it wouldn't work for this too.

@pixelsoldier: To be fair, they also never said that it's never coming out on consoles as far as I know. Maybe it will in a later date. Even I get bummed when certain mulyi-platform games don't come out on PC day and date as on the consoles but they do land on PC at some point.

They said something to the effect that they had ambitious ideas for the sequel, they wanted to get the game out in a reasonable time-frame, and they have more experience developing for the PC. I wouldn't be too surprised if someone tried to port the game over to consoles in the future.

@pixelsoldier:

It's PC-only because of things like procedural map generation and the AI that goes with that. They did a thing on IGN about it; it may be possible, sometime in the future, to port the game over, but Firaxis wants to focus on making a great game that works the first time out, and focussing on one platform lets them do that a lot better than trying to simultaneously develop for three. Keep in mind, Firaxis is a midsize developer; they don't have the same resources as an Activision or an EA, and even those corporate monoliths ship busted-ass games a lot of the time.

@pixelsoldier: It was probably just a decision in terms of sale units. Maybe the console versions of the first game did not sell enough to warrant the development costs?

Of course it can be done, but the first one sold poorly on consoles. Might not be worth their time.

the first xcom was a ton of fun. It stressed me out so much since there were so many ways you could pretty much ruin your game, so I did a ton of research and looked at a bunch of guides before even playing the first time.

They aren't doing the ports because of hardware limitations on consoles. The reason for nixing on doing the ports because the console ports of the first game sold terribly. The money for XCOM has always been on the PC player base.

i put over 200 hours into EU until i had pretty much every map memorized possible for pod spawns (still never got my successful I/I run). very much looking forward to this! i hope the LoS and enemy movement bugs are left behind, and that the procedural map generation works out

wow this game looks so rad. every visual aspect looks better than EU

This is probably closer to the truth than the sales argument. Yeah, Enemy Unknown 'only' sold over a million units on consoles, but that's still worth a port most likely. They'll just do it at a later date.

Yeah, there's a whole a lot more than that too haha. I missed the first 4 years of the PS3 and barely played any games on the PS2(so those HD collections were pretty great for me). Also picked up my first gaming PC and a Wii only 2 years ago. Good thing about this is games are cheap, but some are hard to go back to without any nostalgia for them.

I liked the look of the first game a little more. It was so generic (in a good way), that allowed me to fill the blanks with my own version of the story. Of the things out of X-Com, more narrative is not really what I would chose for a sequel.

But, who am I kidding, I am likely going to play a lot of this because X-Com.

Supposedly, the PC version of Enemy Unknown sold 2.6 million units, while the console version sold a total of 100k units.

Liking the accents. I hope that doesn't mean we can't also have the other languages as well.

Still want to be able to capture and then turn some fraction of aliens onto my team. It's kinda what I was hoping the "Our Powers Combined" achievement on Steam was hinting at (MECs, genemods, psychics, AI SHIVs, and aliens) But now that mod tools are going to be baked in more, I'm hoping to get the changes I want...like creating a world where superheroes having failed at the beachhead now have to resist an alien invasion. I'm thinking Hulk could be a reskinned Berserker and Iron Man a reskinned robot. Hawkeye's a combo sniper/heavy.

Weird, the game looks worse than the first, it may be sharper but its got no atmosphere or character. It just looks like a bunch of nondescript squares and rectangles arranged to vaguely resemble some streets. Hopefully its just unfinished. Also what is that white shit on the screen, i feel like i have jelly in my eye and its making me anxious.

I do love whatever they are doing with the audio.

iOS sales were good on XCOM from what I read, and it was also a PS Plus title on the PS3. I would hold out hope that it'll be later release on consoles and devices.

Looks like the guns have damage ranges now. Maybe they're incorporating some of the other ideas from the mod community too? Better chance of hitting for at least some damage but lower chance of doing max seems like a good compromise to always getting 1-shot by Thin Men.
