Here's What's in Rainbow Six: Siege's Season Pass

Nothing commands the respect of your peers quite like a gun skin that says, "I had an extra $30 that I didn't mind spending."

I like the emphasis on not splitting the community. The whole DLC Playlist thing in games with COD-style matchmaking always drives me nuts.

So, what is the point of the Season Pass then?

Thiiiiiis. It always ends up being "here's a bunch of maps and modes you're never going to use because no one else bought them!"

I feel like Rainbow Six needs to worry more about showing me why I should spend $60 on it than why I should spend $60 on it and then spend $30 more on it.

At least the season pass for this $60 online multiplayer only game is just $30.

"We need a season pass to milk as much money as possible from the community like every modern game"

"But what can we do for this game? Maps or something?"

"Nah that will split our already niche commmunity further, just make like 5 gun skins and include stat boosters to mess up player progression."

"I got you. $30, done."

i forsee trouble in seige's future.......this game is a hard sell when I have fallout 4, the taken king, cod, tomb raider, just cause 3 and the witcher 3 smiling back at me.

You remember back in the day when you were able to play every AAA title?

Boy, $30 seems at least $20 overpriced for that stuff. Should just be piecemeal.

There's already enough snark in here, so I guess I'll just say that I'm happy developers are looking at other ways to pro long a games life without dividing a playerbase. Everyone gets the new Operators, everyone gets the maps. Maybe $30 is a bit high, but I'd rather see that then 4-5 map packs at $15 a pop that you barely get to use.

I havent played a good online shooter in years. I used to play quakeworld, team fortress, Q2 CTF, q3 , rocket arena pretty much competitively back in the day (when you had LPBs and HPBs haha now there is no such thing as HPBs! remember 28.8 modems??)

Rainbow six ravenshield is my favorite goto shooter for the terrorist hunt mode. I played the terrorist hunt mode during siege beta and is the reason why I bought a 980 Ti was a good point of it was to get a copy of Siege! I'm hoping they keep producing new terrorist hunt stuff and dont forget about that mode because I dont care about playing 5 v 5 I just want to kill terrorists in lone wolf mode all day every day. give me more of that please its kind of like burnout takedown being the best burnout so they take out crash mode and no one cares until paradise which tries to fix the problem of burnout not having crash mode ... but we still have no burnout with a crash mode. Give us the best modes and take them away, this was what happened with ravenshield terrorist hunt was far and away the best part of that entire series! Then nothing until now. Please be good and redeem online shooters for me please please.

$60 online only shooter that requires team play to succeed. I guess this'll fit in nicely next to Evolve.

These sort of games come and go so fast. It seems to me (who isn't that knowledgeable I admit) that the market is so busy with games that focus or are exclusively multiplayer that creating a dedicated audience is really difficult. I mean how many people are still playing Evolve right now? A season pass is a great idea if you know that people are going to be into the game 5 or 6 months from now.

So all the extra paid content is stuff I neither need nor want. This'll be the best season pass I never bought (and I've never bought any of them)!

So they didn't want to release any DLC that would split the community (at least in Year One) but they also wanted to sell a Season Pass. So they basically packed all the stuff that Ubisoft would normally sell as time savers into a Season Pass.

I have no intention of buying the Season Pass and this also seems kinda harmless.

I can respect the "decency" of not putting anything mechanically significant behind this pay wall. But it also feels like a damning lack of confidence in the title that they don't feel its worth gouging me for it, especially when you're Ubisoft published. I don't like it, but I've come to expect it and I'm wary when its absent. See also MMOs turning off subscriptions.

Good news for the longevity of the community, god knows this game is going to struggle to sustain a decent sized audience for a year.

Bad news for all those people that bought the season pass sight unseen thinking it will be worth it, but hey, if their going to encourage the practice then they kind of deserve getting stung.

@themaniacsgnome: the problem is the game isnt even out yet and they're already asking for extras without having built a solid foundation in terms of a player base (no, the demos don't count). Evolve did the same thing. Unlike CoD or Battlefield, Rainbow Six is effectively starting from 0 again with their last game in the franchise released wayy back in '08.

everything I've seen of this game looks like it plays at a consistent 20-something FPS. I'm not typically the type of person who cares about (or even notices) frame-rate; but something about this game looks janky in a way I cant quite put my finger on.

Seems like $30 to much for some skins and in game currency.

I agree that what you're getting for $30 is pretty minimal but that's only because they made what is traditionally paid DLC, free.

In terms of the DLC/free content, I actually really like what they've done here in making actual content like maps free and putting the cosmetic bullshit behind a paywall. This might be the least-enticing, worst-value DLC ever produced, but the alternative of DLC you almost need to purchase to get a worthwhile game isn't better.

What I don't like is that this game is what Ubisoft is choosing to do with the once-incredible Rainbow Six series, and it remains to be seen if there's even enough here with the bonus "free" content to get a worthwhile game at all.

Yea, this is kinda where I am with this too. Gameplay looks fun, but also looks like it could get old quick and might go more in the way of Evolve. Leaning more toward Just Cause 3 at the moment.

they had a beta for about two weeks, they showcased all of the operators, a hand full of maps, and all of the game modes. They've actually done a superb job of being upfront with what you're getting with this package, so really I don't know what you're complaining about? You're either interested in it or not, but Rainbow's marketing team has been upfront with consumers the entire time about what this game actually is and I believe they should be commended for it.

"Year One," huh? Looks like they're gonna add new dynamic changes to the game to keep it fresh so the community will keep playing it, you know, just like Destiny...

If all dlc maps are going to be free and you have to pay for new operators that's fine by me. This trend of giving out maps for free to keep the community intact is smart and I hope it continues. Evolve did it and Halo is doing it too

That Renown boost has been confirmed to be 5%. That is absolutely shameful. The extra daily challenges will be PvP based, most likely, and will do little else for anyone who prefers co-op. Always turns out this way. I'd be more forgiving of the Season Pass if the game wasn't $60 already with additional microtransactions to boot. Overall, if the game was $40, I'd have no problem what-so-ever with the disappointing steps they've taken with the franchise. Instead we get an online only game that turns into a shiny drink coaster when Ubisoft inevitably shuts it all down from poor sales.

It's kind of a sad situation if they 'should be commended'. Most of the complaints are the presumption that they're already advertising a season pass before the game & that content is out. It basically has a sense that Ubi don't have much confidence in the base game content wise. Release the content first, let us digest and enjoy it, then afterward we can talk about extras.

It's common practice to offer a season pass before the game is out and even advertise it. Atleast Ubi has been upfront about it... in the past plenty of AAA games have asked money for a season passes with no indication of when the content will come out or even what it will be. If this is the type of stuff that makes you "sad" you're in for a rude awaking my friend.

I think it would be fair to sell the full game for $30 and the season pass for $15. Or better yet, why not charge $45 and give everyone the season pass?

I loved Rainbow Six: Vegas way back when, but no way am I buying this thing.

been playing all day now and i've come to realise something,

They have made a very solid competitive game, prob one of the best shooters in terms of a competitive style,

but they have lost the fun, the team death match of old was way more fun, re spawns enabled good old shoot out fests, it will be hard for anyone that wants to relax and have a shoot out to enjoy this for longer than a month
